To take on Spotify, Apple Music has taken another step and launched Replay, a new feature that will let subscribers look back at their favorite songs this year. At first, this feature may seem similar to the Wrapped feature on Spotify that gives users a year-end review, but Replay is not only an annual summary but it’s also an ongoing experience.
Apple Music Replay will give subscribers a playlist of their 2019 favorite songs, along with playlists for each year of subscription. You can add these lists to your Music Library so that you can play them anytime even if you do not have an Internet connection. You can also share the playlists with your friends or post them to social media.
The Wrapped feature on Spotify is an annual retrospective, but the Replay feature on Apple Music will continue to be updated as the year goes on. According to the company, the playlists, as well as the associated data insights, will get updated every Sunday to reflect the latest listening activities of users.
With this, the playlists seem more like a compilation of favorite content that adds value through the year rather than just the end. And when January 2020 comes, the playlist will be blank and will soon be filled with your favorite songs next year chosen from 60 million songs.
You can access Apple Music Replay from the app or the web link of the feature.
Fun part aside, adding this feature means Apple Music can better compete with Spotify, which relies on streaming data to generate features and personalized playlists for subscribers and users.
According to recent reports, as of the end of September, Spotify has obtained 113 million premium users while in late June, Apple Music got 60 million subscribers.
