A while after teasing the Vivo Apex’s successor on popular Chinese microblogging site Weibo, Vivo has now revealed the name of the forthcoming phone. On Weibo this Friday, Vivo posted a new teaser hinting that this new handset will be launched under the name Vivo Apex 2019. The Chinese phone maker is set to introduce the phone on 24 January in the Chinese market. With the codename of Water Drop, the smartphone remains a mystery, for now. However, leaks are suggesting that the phone will come with a liquid metal chassis.

Vivo uploaded a fresh teaser on its official Weibo page showing a phone with rounded corners and water ripples and that further proves the rumors to be true. On the teaser, there is a Chinese tagline which is roughly translated as “To Simple Future” and it is accompanied by another line saying that Vivo Apex 2019 will use technology to “wake up to the future”.

While both of the taglines are quite vague, it may seem that Vivo is trying to hint towards a new on-screen fingerprint scanner or some other ways to unlock the phone. To recall, the Vivo Apex was introduced at the last year’s MWC with a half-screen on-screen fingerprint scanner. However, this feature was not available on the commercial model of the handset. There is speculation suggesting that the Chinese phone maker has continued the work on the fingerprint scanner and they are going to unveil an improved version of the feature.
According to other leaks, the upcoming Vivo Apex 2019 will have the model number of EKI1831 and is tipped to feature a round design with almost no bezels. Popular leakster @IceUniverse had also posted a few pictures of this handset, which appears to confirm that rumor of it packing a round design and it is similar to what Vivo is showing in the new teaser. Additionally, the smartphone is expected to come with a liquid metal chassis with no button. The company will officially unveil the handset on 24 January so you won’t have to wait for long.
