Motorola Signature 27 Debuts With 200MP Zoom and Extreme Snapdragon Power

The device is among the first smartphones announced with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and pairs that silicon with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. Motorola is also changing how it names the series. The 27 refers to the final two digits of the coming year, a structure the company plans to keep for future Signature models.

The Signature 27 is designed to compete more directly with top Android phones and will come to more markets than the first Signature, including North America. Full pricing and a complete spec sheet have not been shared yet. Motorola says the phone is expected to reach markets worldwide later in 2026.

A Camera System Built for Distance

Photography is one of the clearest upgrades. Motorola has confirmed a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main camera with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor, plus a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. The company says Super Zoom Pro can reach up to 100x with generative AI when subjects sit far from the frame.

The rear layout is unusual. Photos show a raised camera plane with multiple circular modules rather than a conventional island. Motorola has detailed only the main and 200MP telephoto cameras so far. Remaining openings likely house an ultrawide lens, another telephoto, and an LED flash. A Video Enhancement Engine uses AI to adjust color, exposure, highlights, and shadows in real time during recording.

Extreme Chipset and ArcticMesh Cooling

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is Qualcomm's new top-tier 2nm platform. It uses Oryon CPU cores that can reach up to 5 GHz and is built for on-device AI, gaming, and high-end video. Qualcomm says the Extreme variant improves CPU, GPU, and NPU performance over last year's flagship silicon, with stronger video capture options that include 8K recording on supported devices.

To keep that chip from throttling, Motorola added an ArcticMesh cooling system. It combines a 3D vapor chamber that is 40 percent larger than the previous generation with copper mesh, liquid metal, and diamond-infused thermal gel. The company says the stack is meant to hold performance during long AI sessions, games, and video capture.

Audio, Software, and What Comes Next

Audio is another premium touch. The Signature 27 is Motorola's first phone with sound tuned by Bang and Olufsen, with branding on the rear. Color options include Pantone Coal Smoke and Capulet Olive, both with textured finishes. The phone is expected to launch on Android 17 with seven years of operating system and security updates, plus on-device AI tools tied to Google Gemini.

The remaining questions are the ones buyers care about most: exact display details, battery capacity, charging speeds, storage options, and price. Early reports point to a large LTPO AMOLED panel around 6.8 inches, but Motorola has not confirmed those figures in the official reveal. Until the full launch, the Signature 27 already makes one point clear. Motorola wants back into the flagship conversation, and it is using Qualcomm's new Extreme chip and a 200MP zoom lens to get there.
