Apple iPhone 20th anniversary edition: Everything we know so far

The original iPhone launched on June 29, 2007. In 2027 Apple is expected to mark the device's 20th anniversary with a major redesign, much as it did with the iPhone X for the 10th anniversary in 2017.

Rumors point to a fall 2027 release, most likely in September alongside the usual flagship window. Apple has not confirmed any details, and all information remains speculative based on reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and supply-chain leakers.

Design

The standout feature is a glass-centric redesign. Front and back glass panels are expected to curve into the sides on all four edges, creating a near seamless slab of glass look with only a thin metal band visible in the middle. Apple is working with Samsung on equal-depth quad-curved OLED panels that are thinner and brighter thanks to Color Filter on Encapsulation technology.

Two Pro-sized models are planned, roughly matching current Pro and Pro Max dimensions (around 6.3 to 6.4 inches and 6.9 to 7 inches). Ultra-thin bezels and a possible smaller Dynamic Island or under-display camera are also discussed, though full edge-to-edge without cutouts remains uncertain.

Internals and other upgrades

The phones should run a second-generation 2-nanometer A21 chip. An Apple-designed modem may appear on the premium models. Improved efficiency and battery life are expected as a result of the thinner display stack and new silicon.

Naming and pricing

Some reports suggest Apple could skip the iPhone 19 name entirely and go straight to iPhone 20 or a special designation. Pricing is expected to start higher than current Pro models, possibly around $1,299 or more.

A brief cancellation rumor from an analyst in August 2026 was quickly countered by Gurman and leakers who said the glass-centric plan remains on track after an even more ambitious all-glass concept was dropped earlier due to manufacturing challenges.
