Samsung launched the first Galaxy J7 back in June 2015. Two years later, in 2017, its third generation was released. Similar to the Galaxy J6 2017, the Galaxy J7 2017 comes with a premium metal build and a huge Super AMOLED display. The J7 2016 has a mind-boggling battery. But the 2017 variant has an even better battery. The phone features a 3,600mAH battery. Another addition is the home button cum fingerprint scanner. Samsung India launched the Galaxy J7 2017 in July 2017. Samsung J7 price in India 2017 was around Rs 14,990. Here is an in-depth review of this smartphone.
Samsung J7 price
Samsung J7 price in India started from Rs 14,990. Meanwhile, the Samsung J7 Max price was slightly higher at Rs 17,900. And Samsung J7 Prime price was Rs 19,399.
Samsung J7 design
The smartphone has a premium feel to it. The J7 comes with a metal unibody design. Along the top and the bottom of the phone are symmetrical antenna lines. Compared to a phone that is made of glass, the J7 doesn’t look greasy.
Because of the thin bezels, it is very easy to hold the phone. The back of the phone can’t be removed, which means its battery isn’t replaceable. There is a microSD slot if you want to increase the phone’s storage.
Samsung J7 display
The J7 2017, similar to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro, has a 5.5-inch display. While when compared to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Max, it is slightly smaller. The display of the J7 2017 is equipped with a Super AMOLED screen with a 1920x1080 resolution.
The colors, like on most other displays of Samsung, look vivid. The Super AMOLED display brings an infinite contrast. The view angles are quite good. And the screen is readable even under direct sunlight.
Samsung J7 Camera
The J7 2017 has the same sensors as the J5, which, unfortunately, isn’t a good thing. In a good lighting condition, the photos produced with a 13-megapixel rear camera look decent. However, when the sunlight becomes too light, the photos look lack of details. The dynamic range of the J7 2017’s camera isn’t good while the HDR takes too slow to load. Since the sensor doesn’t have OIS or optical image stabilization, it is almost impossible to use the HDR mode. The slow HDR mode combining with the lack of OIS makes HDR photos look blurry.
The colors of the photos are sometimes oversaturated. But they look slightly dull most of the time. With that being said, the camera isn’t that bad overall. Put asides its shortcoming, the autofocus is fast, making it a good camera for point-and-shoot photographers. The f/1.7 aperture helps low-light photos look quite good.
The phone also comes with a 13-megapixel-front camera. And just like the camera on the back, the front camera also has an LED flash. The selfies look quite good and balanced. The flash doesn’t look blinding.
You can record Full HD videos with this smartphone. The digital stabilization helps stabilize the videos so that they don’t look shaky. However, they are still affected by the lack of OIS. In low-lit conditions, the shakiness is still presented.
Samsung J7 software
Just like the Samsung J7 Pro and Samsung J7 Max, the J7 2017 runs Android Nougat. The phone has the same Experience UX as the Galaxy S8. The phone has some really cool features such as a theme store so you can change your smartphone’s look. Other features include Samsung Pass, Secure Folder and a Blue light filter.
One of the smartphone’s best features is Always On Display, which means that when you put your smartphone on a table, the screen will show a clock as well as your recent messages.
Samsung J7 performance
The J7 2017 has the same octa-core Exynos 7870 processor as the Samsung J7 Prime. And this is not enough. There is a reason why the 7870 chip is quipped with those smartphones with a 720p screen since the J7’s Full HD screen is a bit too much. The framerate drops really quickly when playing games.
The 3GB RAM means that you can open several tabs with no problem. It is the same with applications. However, sometimes the smartphones can still feel a bit slow. And with a heavy workload like when you need to update your applications, it can feel sluggish.
Samsung J7 battery
Modest hardware combining with a 3,600 mAH battery gives you two days of usage. For people who use their phones a lot, the J7 can last them a full day.
On the bottom houses a micro USB port for charging. It would be better if the phone comes with a USB Type-C standard. Fast charging is not supported. But for a smartphone in this price range, you wouldn’t have seen that coming.
Samsung J7 fingerprint scanner
Besides the Galaxy J7 Prime, this is another smartphone in the J series that comes with a fingerprint scanner. The scanner is integrated into the home button. It can be used when you want to unlock your device or open Secure Folder or login to websites.
There’s no need for you to push the home button as the scanner is always on. It works fast and is reliable. So it only takes you under a second to unlock your phone.
The notification LED is no longer there. However, the AOD is also excellent when you want to check your notifications.
Verdict
Samsung J7 Price In India 2017 was Rs 14,990. With that price, you get a smartphone with good design, a great Super AMOLED display, and excellent battery life. However, the performance and the rear camera aren’t good enough, making it unsuitable for users who want a high image quality. Fans of Samsung in India can find this smartphone on Flipkart.
