ASUS might not have participated in the Mobile World Congress 2019 taking place in February, but it announced to launch its new Zenfone 6 smartphone in a promotional handout, alongside the event’s press release. After that, a lot of rumours about the handset have surfaced from many sources. Recently, a leaked photo of the device gives us a brief idea about the upcoming smartphone. Now, alleged Zenfone 6 has recently passed through NCC (National Communications Commission) certification in Taiwan.
The handset was spotted on NCC website with the codename of ASUS_I01WD. But, there is no more information about this smartphone in the listing. While it is speculated to be the Zenfone 6, it is also rumoured to be the Zenfone 6 Lite or Zenfone 6Z, which are said to be unveiled alongside. Particularly, another model number which is identical to the one on NCC website also appeared on Wi-Fi Alliance in February, which reveals that the handset could be loaded with Android 9 Pie OS and equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
And according to the promotional material, the Asus Zenfone 6 will sport a full-screen panel with nearly true bezel-less design, which hints at the pop-up selfie camera or the sliding design. “Defy Ordinary” reads the material’s tagline, which proves that Asus can choose for the pop-up or sliding route with the front-facing camera. The leaks also suggest that the handset could feature a triple rear camera setup and sport a gradient colour finish at the back. In addition, the device in the leaked photos has a fingerprint sensor on the bottom, which is opposite to the fact that the smartphone will have a true bezel-less display. Therefore, we should take this info with a grain of salt.
We will get more information about this upcoming device in May when Asus officially unveils the series.
