Official iPhone 12 Trailer: Rumors Versus Real Products

Right after the “Hi, Speed” event with the launch of the new iPhone lineup, Apple uploaded on its official YouTube channel trailers for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 trailer shows us the new iPhones in different colors.

Since 2017, Apple has had a tradition to announce three new iPhones every year. This year, in May, a report suggested that Apple would introduce four new iPhones instead. Then in June, another report confirmed that the next iPhones would come in three screen sizes: 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.7 inches.

At first, it was believed that only one to two iPhone models would have mmWave 5G network support. There were rumors suggested that only the iPhone 12 Pro Max would suggest mmWave or both the Max and non-Max Pro would support 5G. In the end, all models will support sub-6Ghz as well as mmWave 5G connections but only in the US.

A prototype for a magnetic wireless charger was also leaked. It is, in fact, Apple’s newly announced MagSafe charger. The company also introduced a new accessories ecosystem that will work with magnets. The new iPhones will get up to 20W charging with a cable or 15W wire-free.

Apple has launched a MagSafe wireless charging dock. Basically, this charging dock is just like many other wireless chargers on the market. However, instead of using Qi technology, this charging dock of Apple is only compatible with the iPhone 12 lineup as it uses MagSafe technology, something that iPhone 11 and lower models don’t have.

The benefit of this charging dock is that it takes advantage of the magnet’s suction power to automatically align the iPhone to a rechargeable position. Users won’t have to manually align the device like with other Qi chargers. The price of this charging dock is $39.

Besides the MagSafe charging dock, Apple also introduces a new accessory called MagSafe Duo, a wireless charging dock that can simultaneously charge both the iPhone 12 and Apple Watch.

Early CAD drawings appearing in April coincide with the device’s final design. Except for the Pro Max’s camera layout, the mock-up renders were spot on. There was even a dark blue iPhone looking exactly like the new color Apple added for the iPhone 12 Pros.

Out of all models, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has been expected to house the most advanced camera.  The pricing also matches the rumors with the iPhone 12 Mini starting at $699. The price moves up to $999 for the iPhone 12 Pro.

The element of surprise is gone as leaks and reporting have already helped us know the designing of the phones.

iPhone 12 Launch Date

Apple announced all four models during the “Hi, Speed” event. But for the actual launch, the devices will be split up into two groups.

The two 6.1-inch phones, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro can be pre-ordered starting from October 16. They will go on sale officially on October 23. Meanwhiles, the Mini and Pro Max, will only be available for pre-order on November 6 and go on sale on November 13.

iPhone 12 mini: $699

iPhone 12: $799

iPhone 12 Pro: $999

iPhone 12 Pro Max: $1,099.

Design changes

This year, Apple has decided to go down the memory lane with the design of the iPhone 12 lineup with a squarer-edged, boxy look rather than the curved-edge style that we have grown used to.

It will depend on your own preferences to decided whether that is good news or not.

Ceramic Shield

According to Apple, with a ceramic shield, the new iPhone lineup can have 4x better drop performance, compared to the previous generation. And it is said to be tougher than any other smartphone glass. However, we will have to wait until the iPhone 12 is officially released to test whether the claims are true or not.

Colour Finishes

The iPhone regular 12 and 12 mini are available in black, white, green, blue, and (PRODUCT) Red. While green looks decent but a bit pale, the blue looks rich and dark. However, it isn’t as dark as the Apple Watch Series 6’s blue. The 12 Pro and Pro Max are in gold, silver, Graphite, and the new Pacific Blue. Check out iPhone 12 trailer below.
