This latest iOS adoption is developing fast
Much as iOS 13 has just recently been launched, it has found its way to a considerable number of users.
According to a new update to the support post on the App Store for developers, as of October 15, iOS 13 has been installed on 55 percent of all the iPhones that were introduced over the past four years, and half of all connected Apple phones in general. In total, about 40 percent of iPhone devices are still using iOS 12, and less than 10 percent are using an older iOS version.
The App Store measured these results, says Apple. The tech giant launched the first iOS 13 version on September 19, while its first update and iPadOS were launched on September 24. Last year when Apple launched iOS 12, it also hit 50% of users in less than a month.
As for iPad devices, 41 percent of those introduced over the past 4 years has installed iPadOS, while 51 percent of them are still on iOS 12. Considering all the available iPad devices, we can tell that 33 percent of them have been upgraded to the latest operating system while 16% are running older iOS versions, and 51% are using iOS 12.
iPadOS is a dedicated iOS 13 version for the iPad. Even though it has many similar features to iOS 13, the company wants a standalone name for this updated software.
In comparison, as of September 2019, StatCounter – a market share tracker, pointed out that almost a year after the launch of Android Pie 9, less than 33 percent of Android devices around the world have installed it, and Android 8.1 Oreo was running on more than 16% of all Android devices as of last month.
Google has recently launched the most updated version of Android – Android 10, which was rolled out to Pixel phones on September 3, but the number of devices using this latest version still remains unclear.
