Instagram users may soon have a new way to view the most recent videos and photos from the accounts they follow. Specifically, the Facebook-own photo-sharing app has been spotted to be internally testing a feature called Latest Post. With this feature, there’s a pop-up appearing over the main feed, bringing users to an area where the newest posts from their network are shown.
Currently, the feature isn’t exactly like the Most Recent feature on Facebook that shows reverse-chronological news feed. But if Instagram does launch Latest Post, it could help users who don’t want to miss whatever’s happening on social media.
Jane Manchun Wong was the first to spot this prototype, sharing a screenshot to show how it works. As you can see in the photo, the app says “Welcome Back! Get caught up on the posts from [names of people you follow] and 9 more,” which pops up over the home screen. As soon as users tap on “See Posts,” they will be redirected to a separate page that displays recent feeds.
Yesterday, Instagram confirmed this prototype, a spokesperson from the social network said that the early prototype of the feature comes from a recent hackathon, which isn’t available to the public and the feature hasn’t been confirmed to launch yet. Normally, a new feature must be prototyped internally, maybe tested externally, if the feature matches with Instagram’s objectives and the test results are positive, it will get rolled out officially.
