Instagram To Remove The IGTV Button From Its App

This move will return a clean interface to Instagram, eliminating the distraction that usually draws users’ attention away from the content of the page

IGTV was launched in 2018 on Instagram as a new platform for browsing and sharing videos. Millions of users have downloaded the app but that represented only a small fraction of the total number of users the platform has, meaning it is not very popular. This is why Instagram is removing the IGTV button from its app.

For now, users who wish to access IGTV can simply tap on the circular icon of the mobile app. What it shows is a TV with an antenna but you will soon no longer see the icon.

This move will return a clean interface to Instagram, eliminating the distraction that usually draws users’ attention away from the content of the page.

This move is explained by Facebook’s spokesperson as the result of the fact that very few people actually find it useful and tap on it.

According to the company, most users find new videos by looking at the feed of the Instagram app as well as the IGTV channel of the Explore tab. This combines with the feedback from its user base, Facebook has decided to remove the button altogether.

It is the button that makes a departure, not the service itself actually. IGTV is still popular enough to stay on Instagram, at least for now. It is expected that Instagram will further develop the feature as more people are showing their interest in watching videos on their mobile devices.

Facebook has been focusing heavily on the development of Facebook Watch and the process has brought it lost of lessons that might be invaluable to apply to Instagram.
