iPhone SE 2020 Has A Very Disappointing Battery Life, New Test Reveals

For a mid-range smartphone with a starting price of Rs. 30,200, the iPhone SE 2020 has a very disappointing battery life that might not be a good choice for regular users.

Battery life has never been something that Apple’s iPhone is famous for and the newly-released iPhone SE 2020 is no exception. Recently, YouTube channel MrWhoTheBoss has conducted a battery drain test featuring the latest iPhone models against its rivals’ flagships. The test features iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S20, and OnePlus 8. The result is quite surprising, not because the iPhone SE 2020 is placed at the bottom of the list, but its battery life is so disappointing.

In the video, all five smartphones are running the same apps from 100% battery until they run out of power. Other parameters like volume, Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth, display brightness are also the same.
Battery capacity seems to be one of the most important factors in this test. Being the most affordable device among the five phones, the iPhone SE 2020 is only packed with a 1,821 mAh battery in comparison to the iPhone 11 (3110 mAh), iPhone 11 Pro (3046 mAh), Samsung Galaxy S20 (4000 mAh) and OnePlus 8 (4300 mAh).

Of course, having a higher battery capacity doesn’t always translate into longer battery life and there are some smartphones with 3,000mAh that still last quite long. However, it seems like that is not the case for the iPhone SE 2020. According to the test, the iPhone SE 2020 could only last for 3 hours and 46 minutes while the figures for the other smartphones are
- iPhone 11 (5 hours)
- Samsung Galaxy S20 (6 hours 31 minutes)
- iPhone 11 Pro (6 hours 56 minutes)
- OnePlus 8 (7 hours 55 minutes)
Just to remind you, Apple advertises the SE 2020 to have the ability to offer up to 13 hours of video in just a single charge. Well, you might think that it is not fair to compare a sub-$400 smartphone to the leading flagships. However, that doesn’t really matter since that battery life is still disappointing if you compare it to other mid-range smartphones.

However, you can’t ignore the fact that the iPhone SE 2020 does have a very powerful A13 SoC, though it was speculated to be underclocked since its benchmark score was much lower than the iPhone 11 models with the same chipset and at the same level as the iPhone XS Max with an A12 SoC.
