As many countries have been taking social distancing measures or even nationwide lockdown, smartphone sales continued to decline. One of the countermeasures to this situation is to launch cheaper devices to attract users and it seems Apple is also trying to apply that strategy to its upcoming iPhone 12 series.
Not only launching the new iPhone SE 2020 at $399 (around Rs. 30,200), new leaks also suggest that Apple seems to be preparing to apply this strategy to the new iPhone series coming soon this year.
Previous rumors suggested that Apple will launch the iPhone 12 lineup with A14 Bionic processor built on the 5nm process, which will be greatly improved in terms of energy efficiency. In addition, this year's new iPhone line will have four different versions, including two iPhone 12 models with a 5.4-inch screen and a 6.1-inch screen, iPhone 12 Pro with a 6.1-inch screen, and 12 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen.
Now, a new rumor reveals the possible price of Apple’s upcoming series. Accordingly, the iPhone 12 will start at just $649 (around Rs. 49,200) - meaning it's cheaper than the starting price of the iPhone 11 ($699). If the $699 price of the iPhone 11 was quite a shock last year, this could be repeated this year as the iPhone 12 starts at an even lower price.
Meanwhile, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 will cost $749 (around Rs. 56,800). The Pro and Pro Max will cost $999 (around Rs. 75,700) and $1,099 (around Rs. 83,400), respectively - similar to the starting price of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max launched last year.
Currently, rumors claim that the five models will be equipped with A14 Bionic chip built on the 5nm process and 5G connectivity. In addition, they are said to rock OLED screens with a smaller notch. The main difference between this year's iPhone series and its predecessor is the number of rear cameras and the chassis’ materials.
While the lower-priced iPhone 12 models will reportedly feature an aluminum alloy frame and a dual camera on the back, the Pro and Pro Max could have a stainless steel frame, a triple rear camera cluster, and a LiDAR scanner.
According to some reports, this year's Pro versions will use the same flat edge design as the old iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. However, they will use regular flat glass instead of 2.5D curved glass. Even so, there is no confirmation for this, so you should take it with a grain of salt.
As for the launch of these devices, many reports suggest that the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will hit the stores in September as usual, while the higher-end models will go on sale in October.
