The Redmi Note 7S comes with the same features as the Redmi Note 7 but features an upgraded camera setup. Should we purchase this? We'll find out.
Xiaomi has become the no 1 selling brand India because its Redmi line is an affordable series. To take advantage in the smartphone market, Xiaomi continuously launches phones every month or within weeks. Now, Xiaomi has introduced its new smartphone in the series, dubbed Redmi Note 7S.
Buyers of the Note 7S can choose between two options, including a 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant for Rs 10,999 and a 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant for Rs 12,999. It has the specifications of both the old Note 7 & Note 7 Pro or we can say it is kinda cocktail model of Note 7 & Note 7 Pro. The Note 7S comes with same RAM and processor properties which also feature in the Redmi Note 7 but the company includes the huge 48MP camera in it.
Redmi Note 7S Design
The Note 7S, Note 7, and the Note 7 Pro share the same design. Like the other models, the Note 7S features a glass sandwich style with both the back and front protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. This brings a classy, shiny look and feel to the phone, which is difficult to find in this price range. While the shiny back looks premium, it picks up fingerprints pretty easily. So there's a case coming with the retail box that fits the phone well and is made for keeping fingerprints off it.
If you just look at the front, it would be hard to tell between the phones as they look identical with big screens, small notches that are called "Dot Notch." They all have plastic frames and share the same button placement and the tactile feedback is good.
The Note 7S has a rounded frame, making it easy for you to hold with one hand. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone's top, an IR emitter, as well as a secondary microphone. At the lower side, there is a USB Type-C port and two grilles placed on both sides, one of which features a loudspeaker.
The left of the Note 7S houses a hybrid dual-SIM tray, allowing users to insert two Nano-SIMs or one SIM and one microSD card. This one is a displease because today smartphones commonly have a dedicated tray for microSD card.
At the back, Xiaomi gives the handset two cameras, just like in Note 7 Pro with dual-LED flash placed below and a fingerprint scanner located at the center so users can reach it. Xiaomi ships the Note 7S in 3 colors variants, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black & Sapphire Blue. Xiaomi offers a 10 Watts charger in the box.
Redmi Note 7S Specifications
The display comes with a max brightness of 450 nits which is more than enough for use in a bright environment and has full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution. The display has smart viewing angles and color copy.
You'll get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip in this phone, which also comes in Note 7. The Note 7S has a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. In front, it has 13MP selfie camera aided by AI Beautify to click better selfies.
This smartphone comes with a huge 4,000 mAh battery which is enough for surfing webs throughout the day. For connectivity, the Note 7S includes 4 satellite navigation systems, Bluetooth, dual-band Wi-Fi 8022.11ac and dual 4G VoLTE support. Xiaomi has brought MIUI 10.3 to the handset along with the latest Android Pie and also with the latest May security patch update. The fingerprint scanner is very fast & Face recognition feature is also available. It worked well in daylight but took a little bit longer in low-light conditions.
After a number of tests in benchmarking apps, the Note 7S, as expected, registered similar results with the Note 7. In Geek bench 4, it scored 1,629 in single-core and 5,827 in multi-core tests, a little higher than the Note 7 (1,628 and 5,532 respectively). Plus, the device registered 141,589 points in AnTuTu.
