On February 28, 2026, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi took the stage at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 to introduce its highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 series smartphones, emphasizing advanced camera technology in partnership with Leica. The lineup includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and a special Leica Leitzphone edition, all powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 processors. Additionally, the company teased its futuristic Vision GT electric hypercar concept, marking a bold expansion into high-performance automotive design.
The Camera-Focused Xiaomi 17 Series

The Xiaomi 17 series builds on the company's reputation for premium mobile imaging. The standard Xiaomi 17 features a compact design with a 6.5-inch display, available in colors like Black, Venture Green, Alpine Pink, and Ice Blue. It starts at EUR 999 for the 256GB variant. The highlight is its Leica-co-engineered camera system, including a 200MP main sensor capable of delivering optical-quality zoom.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra pushes boundaries further with a 6.9-inch screen, up to 1TB storage, and color options such as Black, White, and Starlit Green. Priced higher, it boasts enhanced night photography capabilities, dubbed "Master of the Night" by Leica, and a massive battery for extended use. Notably, the Xiaomi 17 Pro model remains exclusive to China, while the 17 and 17 Ultra are rolling out globally.
Both models integrate AI features for smarter productivity and run on Xiaomi's latest HyperOS, signaling a bigger push into ecosystem integration. Early reviews praise the series for its vibrant displays reaching up to 3,500 nits brightness and top-tier performance in gaming and photography.
Teasing the Vision GT Hypercar

Shifting gears, Xiaomi unveiled the Vision Gran Turismo (GT), an electric hypercar concept designed for the Gran Turismo 7 video game on PlayStation 5. This marks Xiaomi as the first Chinese brand to enter the Vision GT series, blending virtual racing with real-world engineering prowess.
The Vision GT boasts up to 1,900 horsepower from a 900-volt platform, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.29 and an aerodynamic efficiency of 4.1. It balances low drag for straight-line speed and high downforce for cornering, sculpted through iterative simulations. While primarily a digital asset set to arrive in the game by September 2026, Xiaomi built a full-scale physical model displayed at MWC, hinting at potential future production ambitions.
This concept follows Xiaomi's earlier SU7 EV and underscores the company's rapid growth in the automotive sector, with targets of over 550,000 units in 2026. The Vision GT's sleek, wind-sculpted design features a shark-fin roof and aggressive aerodynamics, making it a standout at the event.
Looking Ahead
Xiaomi's MWC 2026 presentation highlights its ambition to dominate not just smartphones but also connected ecosystems and electric vehicles. With the 17 series now available globally and the Vision GT sparking excitement among gamers and car enthusiasts, Xiaomi continues to bridge technology and innovation across industries. Availability details for the smartphones vary by region, but pre-orders are underway in select markets.
