Xiaomi Officially Announced Redmi Go With Android Oreo Go Edition, 5-inch HD Display

Xiaomi just officially announced in its Twitter page the Redmi Go with Go Edition of the Android 8 Oreo and 5-inch HD display.

The Chinese phone maker Xiaomi had been tipped to be working on an entry-level smartphone that runs Android Go for a while already. The company just officially announced the handset rather quietly through its global Twitter page. Despite being announced in Xiaomi’s official account, the Xiaomi Redmi Go still hasn’t been listed on the company’s official account. In the announcing tweet, the key specs of the device is now revealed. The handset runs the Go Edition of the Android 8 Oreo that makes it an entry-level offering from the company.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Specifications & Features
The Redmi Go will sport a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720p. The phone’s design is fully conventional and that means the handset will have an aspect ratio of 16:9. It will still come with bottom capacitive buttons and earpieces, proximity sensor and selfie sensor will still be located on the top of the phone. It will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon SoC though the exact identity of the processor is not yet revealed, it is speculated in some previous leaks to be the Snapdragon 427 SoC. As it runs Android Go version of the Android Oreo, it should come packed with 1GB RAM and possibly 8GB storage that is expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.
As mentioned, it will be powered by Android 8 Oreo (Go Edition), and it means the Xiaomi Redmi Go will come with Lite versions of some popular apps like YouTube Go, Google Assistant Go, Gmail, and more. All of these Lite apps are customized for the low-end hardware on smartphones like this Xiaomi Redmi Go.
In the camera department, it is confirmed to sport an 8MP camera on the rear with a single LED flash and also a 5MP front camera. It will be backed by a 3,000 mAh battery. The connectivity options of the phone include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, micro-USB port, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and 4G LTE.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Availability & Color Variants
Xiaomi has yet to fully reveal the details of the Redmi Go’s pricing and specs. However, the announcing tweet shows that the handset will be offered in two color options which are Black and Blue. The availability and price tag of this phone is still unknown for now, but it should launch at the price of under Rs. 6,000.
