Redmi has always been known as Xiaomi’s sub-brand, but it does not intend to stay that way for long. Xiaomi’s CEO said that as the Mi series is about higher-end smartphones, the Redmi focuses more on providing the best value for money, thus the decision to separate the brand from Xiaomi. The company went independent in January, and it is working on its very first flagship, whose specs have already been leaked.

There have been a lot of rumors about this new smartphone; however, this time, the information came from the Xiaomi’s CEO Lu Weibing himself. Weibing announced the specs on his Weibo page. He also demonstrated what the 48MP camera of the upcoming phone could do by publishing a photo taken by it. Other leaks claim that the phone would have a triple camera arrangement consisting of a 48MP, a 13MP, and an 8MP.
Along with the photo, he also said that the smartphone would run on the Snapdragon 855 chipset, feature a 3.5mm headphone jack and NFC ability. About the front side, the phone is believed to have a 32MP snapper as with the Redmi Y3. Other features include RAM of 8 MP, onboard storage of 128 MP. The screen is measured 6.30 inches with a display of 2340 x 1080 pixel.
About what to call the phone, Gizdomo China revealed that Weibing said in an earlier Weibo post that the upcoming phone would not be named Redmi X. The company has been talking about a phone called Redmi SD855 for a few months now, but there is no sign of launch any time soon. Rumor has it that the new phone would feature a notch-free screen and the selfie camera would follow the pop-up design, and it would be powered by Snapdragon 730. This phone is believed to be lighter than the Redmi SD855.
