Design
There are two major changes in the design of this iPhone. The first one is the water-resistant chassis that helps the flagship survive plunges into swimming, and the second one is the removal of the iPhone 7 headphone jack.
During the launch event, Apple referred to the omission of the headphone jack as courageous. The change affects users differently, while some don't notice much difference as they now neeđe to connect the EarPods to a Lightning connector first, others find it inconvenient.
There are several color options for iPhone 7 buyers, but not the Space Grey color that had been loved by many customers. This time, buyers get to choose among rose gold, gold, black, silver, red, and jet black. Of all these colors, the red one was the newest addition to the collection, created in a partnership with RED, an AIDS charity.
Overall, the iPhone 7’s design is quite impressive considering some changes in place. The phone is a bit thicker because of the waterproofing feature. The phone comes with dual speakers that fire out of the bottom and earpiece of the device, which also explains why the phone is thicker than the iPhone 6. Though the waterproofing feature makes the phone thicker, it’s a great thing to have and protects the phone from water-related accidents.
The home button also got dramatic changes. Specifically, it is not clickable anymore, but now a sunken point on the phone’s front and responds to the force of touch. At first, it seemed like something users could not get used to, but then it felt completely natural.
The downside is the iPhone 7 scratches very easily so it had better be used with a case. Compared with the iPhone 6S, the design didn’t change much other than the omission of the headphone jack and the new home button.
Screen
The color and the brightness are the main differences between the iPhone 7 and its predecessors. It sports a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1334x750 pixels, the images are not as sharp as on the Galaxy S7 Edge. But this is not noticeable in everyday use.
The iPhone 7 still has the same 3D Touch as the 6S, meaning the phone can detect how much pressure you are applying on the screen. Compared with the iPhone 6S, this model has a more colorful and brighter display with more richness and high-quality colors. The brightness is improved, allowing you to use the phone outdoors more easily. Apart from that, the white balance now features a warmer tone.
The size of the screen is suitable to use in one hand and adequate for media as well. But given the size of the phone, Apple could make the screen larger by reducing the bezel.
Battery life
Apple had improved the battery life and efficiency of the iPhone 7. Specifically, the A10 Fusion chip on the smartphone is designed to separate tasks: two cores can run harder stuff like video editing, photo editing, and multiple background processes while the other two cores make sure you get your emails and run lighter apps.
Nevertheless, it’s not clear which core does what, and it would be helpful to know how to activate only lower-power cores. Despite the claim from the iPhone maker, the battery life of this smartphone is not great at all.
