The Vivo V19 launch event finally took place in India after being delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The device comes with a total of six cameras, with four placed on the rear and two being in the front, alongside other impressive specs. The brand also offers a different version of the Vivo V19 with only one camera on the front. The Indian version is available in two memory configurations, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. Meanwhile, its predecessor Vivo V17 was announced in India way back in December 2019. The device is also equipped with four cameras and has similar specs to the Vivo V19. So, which phone should you purchase? Vivo V19 vs Vivo V17: Price in India

The newer-version Vivo V19 is available in two models - 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The price of the first model is Rs. 27,990 while the more-premium model is retailed at Rs. 31,990. The device is up for grabs in either Piano Black or Mystic Silver. The Vivo V17, on the other handset, is only available in a sole variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The model’s price is Rs. 22,990, which is Rs. 5,000 cheaper than the base option of the Vivo V19. You can get the V17 in either Midnight Ocean or Glacier Ice. You can see that the Vivo V19 is Rs. 5,000 more expensive than its predecessor and that is understandable. Both models offer 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, but whether other specs and features can justify the price difference between the two? Let’s see.

Vivo V19 vs Vivo V17: Display & Processor

While the Vivo V17 runs on Android 9 Pie-based FunTouch OS 9.2, the Vivo V19 is preloaded with Android 10-based FunTouch OS 10. However, considering the fact that the V17 is only out for less than half a year, it should be upgraded to Android 10 in the near future. Both phones come with a 6.44-inch Super AMOLED panel with FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080p) resolution. They are equipped with an under-display fingerprint reader for security. Inside, the V17 is driven by a Snapdragon 675 SoC whereas the V19 gets power from a Snapdragon 712. Compare Vivo V17 and V19 in the hardware performance aspect, the latter is obviously more powerful, but not by a large margin.

As mentioned, both phones pack 8GB of RAM, but the V19 is available in an additional 256GB storage model. Connectivity-wise, the older model supports 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v5.0, USB-C port, and GPS/A-GPS. The V19, on the other hand, supports 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, GLONASS, GPS, USB-C port, and GPS/A-GPS. Overall, Vivo V19 vs Vivo V17, the latter is better in terms of raw performance thanks to the Snapdragon 712, but the difference is not too significant. 

Vivo V17 vs Vivo V19: Cameras & Battery

Moving to the camera department, both phones have quad cameras at the back. The V19’s setup includes a 48MP main sensor with an f/1.79 aperture, an 8MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP portrait camera with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture. Upfront, its dual selfie cameras are 32MP unit with an f/2.08 aperture and an 8MP unit with an f/2.28 aperture. In comparison, the quad rear camera cluster of the Vivo V17 comprises of a 48MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP portrait camera with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture. On the front, it gets a single 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.

You can see that there is barely any difference between the two rear camera setups while the V19 has an additional 8MP ultra-wide camera on the front. If you are a fan of taking selfies and stuff, maybe this upgrade is worth it. If not, well, there isn’t any significant difference between the two phones in the camera department.

Both smartphones are equipped with a 4,500 mAh battery, but the Vivo V17 only supports 18W fast charging tech in comparison to the 33W fast charging tech of the Vivo V19. As for dimensions, the newer model is slightly heavier with 186.5 grams while the older one only weighs 176g.

Overall, Vivo V19 vs Vivo V17, there aren’t a lot of differences between the two. The newer model pretty much has the same rear camera setup, one more selfie camera, faster-charging technology (33W over 18W), and a slightly more powerful chipset. Would you want to pay Rs. 5,000 for those upgrades given the fact that the Vivo V19 is only around 5-month old.
