Vivo V19: Review

The Vivo V19 India comes with some of the most popular design trends that you have seen on many smartphones launched late last year and this year. On the front, there is a 6.44-inch dual mole screen that supports Full HD + resolution. The punch-hole design is really up to your personal preference to whether you like it or not. I have to say I’m not a big fan of the dual punch-hole since it causes minor inconvenience in certain situations, especially when playing games.

Vivo V19 Review 1

The back of this phone stands out with a quad-camera setup housed in a rectangular module. Most of the back is covered with glass, making it more comfortable holding this phone compared to the plastic body of the Galaxy A71. Vivo sells the device in two color options: Black and Silver.

The cluster of four cameras of Vivo V19

Talking about the display of Vivo V19, the device uses a Super AMOLED panel, so it reproduces vibrant colors, high contrast, deep black suitable for Dark Mode in Android 10 as well as many other apps. In general, Vivo's smartphone has similar display quality to that of the rival Galaxy A71. If Vivo also had increased the refresh rate to 90Hz, the phone would have been much more appealing to users.

Vivo V19 Review 3

The handset owns four rear cameras, including a 48MP main camera + 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera + 2MP macro camera + 2MP depth sensor. In general, you have a full choice from ultra-wide-angle to macro cameras that is currently the current trend. Photography, video recording features such as Auto HDR, AI scene recognition, night mode, super stabilization, etc… can be found on this smartphone.

Vivo V19 Review 5
Vivo V19 has a 32MP front camera (wide-angle) + 8MP (ultra-wide-angle) cameras. Having an ultra-wide-angle camera is pretty good for taking a large group selfie.

Vivo V19 performance

With Snapdragon 712 processor, Adreno 616 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB ROM, Vivo V19 is less powerful compared to some competitors in the same price segment.

Vivo V19 Review 9

Next-gen processors like the Snapdragon 730G / 720G deliver better performance than the Snapdragon 712 in both the CPU and GPU departments. On Android, the newer apps and games tend to consume more resources. Therefore, having a well-configured smartphone is necessary if you want to have a stable performance with no lag or stutter.

On the positive side, the performance of the device is still a significant step forward compared to its predecessor V17 Pro, especially the ability to handle graphics. And the handset can also outperform the OPPO Reno2 F (a product that is at the end of its life). However, with the price of Rs. 27,990, it seems like the Vivo V19 might be on the lower side when considering performance / price ratio.

Regarding software, the device runs Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10. Vivo has introduced some interesting features such as Ai-powered noise reduction when making video calls in popular apps like Messenger, Whatsapp, and more.

33W fast charging: good but lacks compatibility

The 4,500 mAh battery is large enough for office workers, gaming breaks like I can use all day. What I care more about is Vivo's Flashcharge 2.0 33W fast charging technology. In real life, the technology allows approximately 54% charged after 30 minutes of charging, which is quite close to what the brand announced. And it took around 1 hour to fully charge the phone.

Vivo V19 Review 10
The charging capacity of the device is 33W, relatively faster than Quick Charge 4 (27W) and Samsung Super FastCharge (25W)

The fact that each company runs its own fast charging technology, preventing users from choosing third-party accessories (power banks, versatile adapters). With Vivo FlashCharge 2.0, the maximum input voltage of 11V-3A for 33W is quite unique, I tried a power bank that supports PD 45W, PD 65W charger and third-party chargers., all of which don’t support such voltage levels. That means when I charge the Vivo V19 with those power banks, they will only accept up to 9V-2A, equivalent to Quick Charge 2.0 / 3.0. In order to charge at 33W, you must use Vivo’s proprietary charger.

We will soon release a new article comparing the Vivo V19 vs Samsung a51

Vivo and companies from China are creating a "matrix" of fast charging technology because of poor compatibility with third-party accessories. Of course, this won't affect much of the experience unless you lose the bundled charger ...

At Rs. 27,990, Vivo V19 will likely struggle to compete against other competitors in the mid-range segment. Overall, Vivo V19 is like a good student in the class, neither top-class nor exceptional. There is nothing special about this phone that really draws users' attention.
