Xiaomi already confirmed that it would use the pop-up selfie cameras on its phones. Xiaomi’s Product Director Wang Teng Thomas even stated that the release of phones with pop-up selfie cameras will rely on the demand from customers. In the last month, there have been quite a few leaked photos on Weibo showing a Redmi flagship phone with a pop-up selfie camera. However, Redmi’s GM Lu Weibin said that the brand doesn’t have any plan to launch such design on its upcoming flagship device. Moreover, these photos are not really that reliable since they were all leaked from less reliable sources.
That being said, it appears that XDA Developers managed to get a piece of new evidence revealing that the company is actually planning to launch two new handsets with the pop-up selfie camera design. They will also likely to come to India as well.
Xiaomi devices with code names of ‘Raphael’ and ‘Davinci’ To Come To India
XDA said that they have already been tracking two Xiaomi phones under the code name “Raphael” and “Davinci” in the last five months. In March, they found a piece of evidence showing that Xiaomi is testing the pop-up selfie camera on the ‘davinci’ phone. Since then, the company is tipped to continuously develop support for the pop-up selfie camera. The ‘raphael’ smartphone was also later joined in the testing.
So it seems like Xiaomi will not go for the sliding mechanism that we have seen on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, but they will use the pop-up camera design instead. The detailed specs of its cameras remain unknown at the moment, but it’s confirmed they both are flagship devices. Snapdragon 855 SoC and an on-screen fingerprint scanner can be expected on both of the handsets.
The information saying that these two phones coming to India came from the evidence which reveals the company’s undertaking of exclusive versions of its MIUI software for India. The versions were spotted with code names of ‘davinciin’ and ‘raphaelin’.
For now, we still can’t confirm whether these two phones will actually have the pop-up selfie camera design or not. They could be the upcoming Mi Mix 4 or Mi Mix 3s.
