After announcing Redmi to be an independent brand, Xiaomi released its Redmi Note 7 in the Chinese market under the new brand, Redmi. Besides that, the Xiaomi CEO also revealed the company’s plan to release the first Redmi phone at a release event on 10 January, and now it is unveiled as Redmi Note 7, not Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.
Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, said that the company decided to split Redmi to be an independent brand is that they want to give more attention to the brand. This decision will split Redmi and Mi into two different brands as they have different targets. While the Redmi brand offers value-for-money phones in the entry-level and budget segments, the Mi brand is aimed towards the high-end segment. Xiaomi now has a total of three phone brands in the Indian market, including Pocophone, Redmi, and Mi.
Coming back to the new Redmi Note 7, the base option with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage is priced at RMB 999 (around Rs. 10,100). Redmi also offers two more variants of the Redmi Note 7, including a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage model and the top-end 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage variant. They are priced at RMB 1,199 (around Rs. 12,500) and 1,399 RMB (around Rs. 14,600) respectively and they will be up for sale in the Chinese market on 15 January.
The Redmi Note 7 is claimed to be a significant upgrade from the Redmi Note 6 Pro in terms of design, camera and more. Check out the top 5 features that make the upcoming Redmi Note 7 a good choice.
Redmi Note 7: The 48-megapixel camera
The highlight of this handset is undoubtedly its 48MP camera in the dual camera setup on the rear along with a 5MP secondary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. It is not only the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature a 48MP camera, but is also the first Redmi phone to pack such high-resolution camera at a 999 CNY price, which is around Rs. 10,100. Redmi includes the 48MP sensor with Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1. In addition, it also gets HDR, PDAF, EIS, super night scene mode and 1080p video recording.
4,000 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0
The Redmi Note 7 is backed by 4,000 mAh battery which is pretty common on a Xiaomi Redmi branded smartphones. But it also comes with support for Quick Charge 4 which is claimed to allow the phone to fully charge in just 1 hour and 4 minutes.
However, Xiaomi doesn’t include a Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging adapter in the box but you have to buy it for CNY 10 (around Rs. 105). The handset will also come with a standard 5V/2A adapter.
Water-drop notch
The display is another difference between the Redmi Note 7 and Note 6 Pro. The new phone comes with a water-drop notched display instead of the regular wider notched displays on previous models.
Gradient color and new glass design
This new phone features a new glass design instead of the regular metal. It also comes in three gradient colour options and a 2.5D glass on the back. Previously, the Redmi series of Xiaomi had a single colour design of gold, blue, rose gold, red and black, but this time, Redmi opts for Fantasy Blue, Bright Black and Twilight Gold in the Chinese market.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor
The Redmi Note 7 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC under the hood. It isn’t a new SoC but it isn’t a new SoC at all but it is still an upgrade from the Snapdragon 636 processor.
USB Type-C
It also has the new USB Type-C port instead of the traditional micro-USB port on the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The Chinese phone maker has been using micro-USB port on their Redmi phone series, and they may start using USB-C port now from this handset.
