With big names like Oppo and Xiaomi dominating the market, Meizu has chosen to manufacture lean and nonsense-free devices. The company also aims at making smartphones with minimal bezels, so on this year’s Meizu 16s, we will see an in-display optical scanner. However, it still has the selfie camera and the display controller below to deal with.
The Meizu 16s will be an excellent option for someone who dislikes the notch. The fingerprint sensor works well, and the chin is as small as that of the iPhone XR. On the top, the selfie snapper looks tiny, but competent.
The phone is not small, but its 6.2-inch OLED display is still manageable. With the weight of 165g and thickness of 7.6 mm, the 16s is quite lightweight and thin. Its curved glass back will make you think of a Xiaomi device.
Flyme OS may take you some time to get used to, but it resembles most of the other software of Chinese phone makers. The OS follows the minimalistic design, and it looks quite like iOS. On the Meizu 16S, instead of an app drawer, you have an alphabetical scroll bar to access apps. You can get to this bar by swiping the right edge of the screen.
For the price, you can hardly find better specs on other phones. The phone has Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 processor on the inside. When it comes to photographing, the 48-megapixel Sony sensor coupled with a secondary 20-megapixel telephoto camera is a similar offer with that of many other Chinese flagship smartphones this year. Other specs include RAM of 8 GB and a 3,600mAh battery.
Meizu 16S is priced at around Rs. 38990, meaning it is in the same price bracket with smartphones like Xiaomi Mi 9.
