Snapdragon 865 Specifications Revealed, 20 Percent Stronger Than Snapdragon 855

Qualcomm will host the Snapdragon Tech Summit event in Hawaii on December 3. It is likely that in this event, Qualcomm will introduce its next flagship mobile processor, which is dubbed Snapdragon 865. A few leaked information has recently revealed the specifications of the processor.

The official name of the processor will be Snapdragon 865, arriving as the direct successor to the Snapdragon 855 launched last year. Like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865 will be equipped with eight processing cores, including one high-performance Cortex-A77 2.84GHz core, 3 Cortex-A77 2.42GHz cores, and 4 energy-efficient 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Snapdragon 865 will come with improvements on the integrated graphics chip, with Adreno 650 GPU 587MHz. To recall, the Snapdragon 855 used an Adreno 640 GPU.

The performance of the Snapdragon 865 will be about 20 percent higher than the Snapdragon 855, mainly due to the high-performance processing cores being upgraded to Cortex-A77. In addition, graphics processing performance will be about 20 percent higher as well.

A previous report revealed that Qualcomm's next-generation processors will be split into two versions, codenamed Kona and Huracan. One version will come with the Snapdragon X55 modem chip, so smartphones equipped with this version of the Snapdragon 865 won't need separate 4G / 5G modems. The earliest smartphones that are expected to feature this upcoming chipset include Galaxy S1, Galaxy S11+, Titanium M6 5G, OnePlus 8, and OnePlus 8 Pro. However, it is unlikely that these phones will make their debut any time earlier than late January next year.

Aside from the new smartphone chipset, the company is also said to introduce a new processor for Android-powered wearables called Wear 3300. If it is true, the chipset will be launched as a successor to the Wear 3100. Moreover, a successor to the ARM-based Snapdragon 8CX chipset for ultraportable laptops is also expected to make its appearance at the event.
