Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the first foldable phone that sports a glass screen and it has made headlines since even before its launch. The handset has also become a hit with consumers. On Wednesday, the tech giant said that the Galaxy Z Flip is sold out online but more units will come this Friday.

Last week, Samsung announced the Z Flip, the phone then went on sale last Friday at a price of Rs 99,000 and the initially available quantity would be limited. Samsung’s second foldable smartphone comes with a clamshell design, which is basically a high-tech, advanced flip phone. According to the phone maker, to protect the 6.7-inch flexible display, it used Ultra Thin Glass.

The new handset comes out to a growing wave of foldable phones, which include Samsung Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X, the Royole FlexPai, and the recently launched Motorola Razr. Foldable phones are expected to redefine how we think about and use mobile devices.

Being the first foldable mobile device to have a glass screen, the Galaxy Z Flip can give the sector a boost. Glass is much more resistant to scratches than plastic, and is overall more durable than plastic. Besides, the use of Glass gives the Galaxy Z Flip a premium feel, better than other currently available foldable phones.

However, there has been some controversy around the glass display of the Flip. As shown in a video posted on YouTube by JerryRigEverything, the screen seems to be a disappointment. The YouTuber found that the display could easily be affected with fingernails, leaving scratches on the surface, which would be different if it were real glass.

Samsung refused to comment on the actual number of units sold.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is expected to come to the Indian market by the end of this month, at an expected price of Rs 99,999.
