It might be true that you could get a very powerful performance on a flagship smartphone. However, you can still get a perfect handset for you in the mid-range segment without spending a large amount of money. Among the best mid-range smartphones, Samsung Galaxy A51 vs Redmi Note 8 Pro are the best ones available on the market so far. Let’s find out which phone comes out on top.
Samsung Galaxy A51 vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: Price in India
The Galaxy A51 price in India is as follows:
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs. 23,999
The device is available in four color models - Pink, Blue, White, and Black.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro price in India is as follows:
- 6GB RAM + 64GB storage: Rs. 13,999
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs. 14,798
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs. 17,999
You can clearly see that even the top-end model of the Redmi Note 8 Pro with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage is not as expensive as the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model of the Galaxy A51. Let’s see why the two have such a price difference.
Samsung Galaxy A51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Design
The first difference is that the front of the Galaxy A51 looks more premium than that of the Note 8 Pro. Thinner bezels and taller aspect ratios of 20: 9 make the A51 feel more elegant, compact, and more modern. The punch-hole on the front of the phone looks smaller than the notch on its Xiaomi counterpart. Meanwhile, the front of the Redmi Note 8 Pro can be found in any other mid-range product.
Moving to the back, the glass back of the Galaxy A51 is obviously better than the Redmi Note 8 Pro, except for the fact that glass could be easier to break than plastic. The camera cluster and fingerprint sensor of the Xiaomi phone are located on a vertical axis in the center, while the A51's camera cluster is placed in the top-left corner.
In terms of weight, the A51 will be very light at only 170gr with a 4,000mh battery and a 6.5-inch screen. The Note 8 Pro has a weight of 200gr, which is substantially heavier. Regarding the overall design of the front and back, the A51 is more prominent.
Samsung Galaxy A51 vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: Hardware specifications
These two products have two different displays with the A51 having the better one. The A51 gets an AMOLED screen whereas the Note 8 uses an IPS LCD display. AMOLED panel certainly has the advantage of being bright, high contrast, and deep black. In addition, the Galaxy A51’s display has a tall 20:9 aspect ratio and a size of 6.5 inches while the screen on the Note 8 has 6.53 inches in size and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
For security, the A51 has a more-advanced fingerprint reader whereas the Redmi Note 8 Pro is packed with a fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear.
In terms of performance, the Galaxy A51 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9611 SoC while the Note 8 Pro gets power from a MediaTek Helio G90T chipset.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro AnTuTu scores are as follows:
- CPU: 96,424
- GPU: 80,286
- MEM: 62,166
- UX: 53,624
The Galaxy A51 AnTuTu scores are as follows:
- CPU: 58,814
- GPU: 47,982
- MEM: 43,114
- UX: 37,594
Based on these AnTuTu scores, we can see that the Redmi Note 8 Pro is clearly better than the Galaxy A51 in all four departments. However, we would not recommend fully trusting these scores as MediaTek has recently admitted to benchmark cheating.
Samsung Galaxy A51 vs Redmi Note 8 Pro: Camera
Moving to the camera department, both phones' camera setups look pretty much the same on paper.
Galaxy A51 camera setup:
- 64 MP main camera
- 8 MP ultra-wide camera
- 2 MP macro camera
- 2 MP portrait camera
- 20 MP selfie camera
Redmi Note 8 Pro camera setup:
- 64 MP main camera
- 8 MP ultra-wide camera
- 2 MP macro camera
- 2 MP portrait camera
- 20 MP selfie camera
The 4,500mh battery of Note 8 is larger than the 4,000mh of the A51. Both devices have fast charging support, but the 18W charging rate of the Note 8 is again faster than the 15W charging standard of the A51.
If you need a phone with good performance, beefy battery for gaming purposes for Rs. 6,000 cheaper then you should choose the Redmi Note 8 Pro. If you are into entertainment, better design, in-screen fingerprint sensor, the A51 will be a better choice.
