Samsung Galaxy phone cameras have long been famous for their excellence, but the company has struggled to catch up with competition regarding low-light or night shots, with the biggest rivals Google Pixel 3 and Huawei P30. However, by adding a dedicated night mode to the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus, Samsung will turn the table.

The night mode featured in the Galaxy S10 lineup in a software update after criticism over the Bright Night Shot mode. When it comes to buying a new phone, cameras, display quality, as well as battery life are among the most critical features for consumers. Hence, premium phones must include a night mode.
At launch, one of the biggest drawbacks in the Galaxy S10 is that it lacked a separate night mode. The Korean phone maker insisted that its Bright Night Mode could make photos clearer, but tests showed almost no difference and it took a while for conditions to align so that the camera could surface it.
Unlike a standalone night mode that you can turn on whenever and wherever you want, the Bright Night Mode will process shots at different exposures and combine them into one. The purpose of this process is to make details clearer and reduce noise. Imagine how you can suddenly see things in the dark and more of the background.

With the Night Mode in the Note 10, however, you have to hold the phone still as the mode takes the shot, probably five seconds. The resulting photo is expected to be brighter, featuring more details.
In fact, the Night Mode is especially good regarding reining in streetlights which would otherwise look as if they were spraying all over the display. The mode can also make fine writing sharper, easier to read.
In the case of the Note 10, its dedicated night mode helps its maker keep up with rivals. While the mode seems to generate the brightest shots of the bunch, it also improves background details that are not in the focus area.
But Samsung had better respond quicker next time.
