The selfie-centric Redmi Y3 even sports a 32MP selfie camera that is available on the mid-range Vivo V15.

After featuring on many teasers, the Redmi Y3 finally launches in the Indian market. The selfie-centric handset was introduced alongside the Redmi 7 which made first appearance in the Chinese market last month. While the Redmi 7 is aimed at general consumers, the Redmi Y3 mostly targets those who love taking selfies. The two new phones share quite a lot of similarities such as display, processor, battery, design, and rear cameras as well. The selfie camera and memory configurations are their key differences. As a selfie-focused phone, the Redmi Y3 is equipped with a 32MP selfie camera. Besides the two new phones, Xiaomi also introduces its new Mi LED Smart Bulb at the 24 April launch event.

The handset is priced at Rs. 9,999 in India for the base option with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The top-end variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage costs Rs. 11,999. It will be up for sale at 12 p.m on 30 April via Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores as well. The Chinese company also said that it will provide the phone via Mi Stores, Mi Preferred Partner stores and Mi Studio pretty soon. You can choose to purchase the phone in three color variants, including Prime Black, Bold Red, and Elegant Blue. Airtel customers can claim a maximum of free 1,120GB data from the company.

As for the Mi LED Smart Bulb, the company hasn't revealed the official price of the new product but it does say that it will be up for sale from 26 April at 12 p.m exclusively via Mi.com.

Redmi Y3: Specs & Features

The handset sports a 6.26-inch HD+ water-drop notched display with 1,520 x 720p resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 as well. Powering the phone is an octa-core Snapdragon 632 SoC, and it runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 on top.

As mentioned, the selfie-centric offering boasts a 32MP Samsung GD1 sensor, similar to the mid-range Vivo V15. The selfie unit is supported by features like Auto HDR, AI Beautify, Super Pixel for low-light conditions, Palm Shutter for taking shake-free selfies, AI Portrait Selfies. You can also take wide group selfies with the 80-degree field of view.

Moving to the dual rear camera setup, it has a 12MP primary shooter with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25μm pixel size as well as a secondary 2MP depth sensor with a LED flash. Features for the rear cameras include AI Scene Detection, AI portrait Mode, recording video @FullHD resolution and 60fps with Electronic image stabilization (EIS), and Google Lens.

Even though it is not IP certified, the phone still features a P2i Nano Hydrophobic coating. Lastly, it comes with a large 4,000mAh cell with support for 10W fast charging tech.

As mentioned, Xiaomi also introduced the Mi LED Smart Bulb which is a new Internet-of-Thing product that can work with both Google Assistant and Alexa. Users can also operate the product with the Mi Home app. Not like the majority of its rivals that are now available in the market, you don't need to get a hub or bridge to set up its Wi-Fi connectivity. Other notable features include 16 million color gamut which can be controlled by users along with its brightness. In addition, they can also schedule the bulb to automatically turn off or on whenever they want. Lastly, the bulb is touted to last for 11 years.
