Even though Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi continues to release Redmi K30 smartphones, it is still reportedly working on the Redmi K40 series. Rumor has it that the vanilla Redmi K40 could make its debut at the end of this year while the Pro will launch in 2012. Now, ahead of the rumored launch, we have just learned a few new details about the upcoming smartphones. According to the leak, they will feature an OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole style.
Previous rumors suggested that the Redmi K40 Pro could feature the not-yet-released Snapdragon 875 chipset, that is tipped to feature the 5mm process and launch next month. While the Pro model is said to carry a Qualcomm chipset, the vanilla K40 could be powered by a MediaTek chipset, the Dimensity 1000+. The handset is also said to support 5G network and pack a Sony IMX686 sensor. However, the K40 is also speculated to break cover with the Snapdragon 775G chipset, which is slated to go official alongside the Snapdragon 875. For now, all these are just leaks so you should take them with a grain of salt, but one thing we are pretty certain about is the 5G support of the K40 as it was spotted on the MIIT database with 5G connectivity and model number M2011K2C.
Recently, Redmi’s GM Lu Weibing also said that the Redmi K30 Pro will be discontinued soon, again hinting that the Redmi K40 series’ launch might be around the corner. Sadly, the executive didn’t share many details about the series. However, going by previous lineups, we believe that the series should come with significant upgrades over their Redmi K30 predecessors.
