Realme 6 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: Both Are Great In Their Own Ways

Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro are two new mid-range smartphones launched by Xiaomi's sub-brand and OPPO's sub-brand Realme. Let's see how are these two compared to each other.

Xiaomi and Realme both are well-received brands thanks to very good smartphones for quality and price. Recently, both companies have launched very noticeable products such as the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6. This makes users continue to wonder about choosing between these two phones.

These are the two latest smartphones launched by two of the most popular smartphone brands in the entry-level and mid-range segments.

To remind you, Realme took the stage to launch the Realme 6 series in India on March 5, including Realme 6 & 6 Pro smartphones. On the other hand, their rivals announced the Redmi Note 9 series in India on March 13, including the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. In this article, I am going to compare the Redmi 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro, which are in the same price range.

Realme 6 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: Price & Availability

The two phones are placed in the same price segment.

Here is the Realme 6 price in India:

  • 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage model costs Rs. 12,999.
  • 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage model costs Rs. 14,999.
  • 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage model costs Rs. 15,999.

  • 4GB RAM + 64GB storage: Rs. 12,999
  • 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs. 15,999

You can clearly see that the Realme 6 is offered in one more variant compared to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Both phones are priced the same for their base variants, while the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model of the Realme phone is cheaper. In addition, the Realme smartphone is also available in 8GB RAM variant while it is not the case for its Redmi counterpart.

Realme 6 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: Design & Quality

Basically, both phones offer a much more premium look than their price point. So let's find the slight differences between the two. Realme 6 uses a punch-hole design with the selfie camera located inside the cut-out at the upper left corner of the screen. The Redmi Note 9 Pro, meanwhile, gets a center-aligned cut-out at the top of the screen to accommodate the front camera.

Both have great build and design.

Moreover, the Realme 6 phone has a 6.5-inch display, which is smaller than the 6.67-inch unit on the Redmi Note 9 Pro. At the back, Realme has a quad-camera setup on the upper left of the back for their phones, while the Xiaomi counterpart also has quad cameras but they are placed in the center of the upper half of the back.

The two smartphones from Realme and Xiaomi are both thin and compact. As for the physical dimensions, the Redmi Note 9 Pro measures 165.8 × 76.7 × 8.8 mm and weighs 209g, while its rival measures 163.8 × 75.8 × 8.9 mm and weighs 202g. As for color variants, Realme 6 has two color options, while Redmi Note 9 Pro is available in three color options.

Regarding the display, the Redmi Note 9 Pro phone features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel of Full-HD+ resolution, surrounded by relative slim bezels. The punch-hole screen offers a pixel density of 395 PPI pixels and an aspect ratio of 20: 9 just like the Realme 6 smartphone.

Moreover, both devices have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front. Xiaomi advertises its product to support 450 nits brightness and Realme also claims that the brightness on the Realme 6 is 480 nits. However, the 90Hz refresh rate is only available on the Realme product.

Both the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6 have Android 10 pre-loaded, but they run on their respective custom user interface. Realme UI is a new user interface introduced earlier this year. It is quite similar to OPPO's Color OS and only available in several Realme smartphones for now. We can’t really say which one is better than the other. Realme UI or Xiaomi’s MIUI 11, it depends on your personal preference.

In terms of performance, Xiaomi equips with an 8nm Snapdragon 720G processor manufactured by Qualcomm. Meanwhile, Realme 6 is equipped with an Helio G90T made by MediaTek. On paper, the Helio G90T is more powerful than the Snapdragon 720G, but the differences between these 2 SoCs are not great and they are all focused on gaming performance. Therefore, you can absolutely play all games with Realme 6 or Redmi Note 9 Pro with hardly any issues.

Realme 6 vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: Camera  & Battery

Without a doubt, the Realme 6 smartphone has a slightly more "impressive" camera setup than the Redmi Note 9 Pro, although they both have four cameras on the back and one on the front.

Realme phone has a slightly higher-resolution camera setup.

As for the Realme 6, the phone has a rear camera setup with a 64MP f / 1.8 primary sensor, paired with an 8MP f / 2.3 wide-angle lens, 2MP monochrome lens and a dedicated 2MP macro camera, both of which have f / 2.4 aperture. For selfies, it has a 16MP selfie camera with an f / 2.0 aperture.

For Redmi Note 9 Pro, Xiaomi has equipped the main sensor at the rear is a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor with f / 1.79 aperture (PDAF, EIS, 0.8μm pixel size, LED flash and EIS), aided by an 8MP ultra-0wide-angle lens with 119-degree field of view, a 5MP macro lens with a maximum focusing distance of 2cm and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, the device has a 16MP selfie camera.

Note 9 Pro's battery is much beefier, but it supports 18W fast charging technology while Realme 6 is charged via a 30W fast charger.

The Realme 6 is powered by a 4,300mAh battery, supporting 30W Flash Charge technology. Realme claims that Flash Charge technology can refill the battery to 100% in just 60 minutes and 70% in 30 minutes. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, on the other hand, has a bigger battery (5,020mAh), but only supports 18W fas charging technology.

Both are great phones in different departments.

Obviously Redmi Note 9 Pro or Realme 6 have their own strengths. If you want a better display for gaming and higher resolution main cameras, then Realme 6 is definitely a better option here. However, Xiaomi is also offering an extremely attractive product with a huge battery, powerful performance, and unique design.
