Realme 5 Pro price in India starts at Rs 13,999 for the base variant. Without pushing the price tag, the company still manages to offer significant updates.

Realme continues to populate the budget smartphone segment with the Realme 5-series. Realme released the Realme 5 Pro in just four months after the launch of the Realme 3 Pro. Without pushing the price tag, the company still manages to bring to the table significant updates. The most notable one is the camera as the Realme 5 Pro is one of the first few devices that have a quad-camera setup. Secondly, Realme boosts the processor slightly by using the Snapdragon 712 rather than the 710. And last but not least, the back pane gets a new design. Realme 5 Pro price in India starts at Rs 13,999 for the base variant.

Design

The design of the Realme 5 Pro makes it look more premium than what its price tag suggests. The most noticeable point about the design is its Crystal design, making the back of the phone almost look like a diamond’s facets. Although it looks cool, it is a little bit overdone.

However, the back is still made of plastic, meaning over time, scratches will appear. But Realme also includes in the box a phone case.

In hand, it does not feel very premium as it attracts quite a lot of smudges. Overall, the design of the phone is functional, it neither too bulky nor slippery. But it doesn’t necessarily blow you away.

Display

Usually, displays of smartphones in this budget segment are pretty basic. And with the Realme 5, there’s no exception. The smartphone has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with a 2340 x 1080 resolution. On the top of the screen is a small waterdrop notch that houses the front camera. According to Realme, compared to the previous generation, this “minidrop” notch of the Realm 5 Pro is smaller.

The color of the panel is pretty accurate. However, it lacks the wow factor found on OLED displays. But when you consider the smartphone’s price tag, that’s a reasonable trade-off. The maximum brightness levels are quite adequate as well. The minimum brightness is enough for use in dark scenarios.

For protection, the phone has Gorilla Glass 3+. The phone is pre-applied with a simple plastic screen protector.

Performance

India has become quite a processor-centric market, with the help of companies like Xiaomi. With the 5 Pro, Realme has equipped it with the Snapdragon 712 chipset. Fabricated at 10nm, the chipset brings in higher raw processing power and efficiency than any other smartphone in this price segment. The interesting thing is, compared to the SD 710, the SD 712 is said to be 10 percent more powerful. And if you don’t know, the SD710 is used in Realme X, which is much more expensive than the Realme 5 Pro.

The smartphone has no trouble handling regular tasks like multitasking, social media, texting, and calling, etc. The Snapdragon 712 is accommodated by up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM as well as UFS 2.1 storage to shorten app opening times and increase performance.

When it comes to gaming, the processor can take on even heavy 3D games like PUBG while providing a stable and consistent frame-rate throughout. There is minimal heating.

Cameras

The Realme 5 series’ smartphones will be the first to house a quad-camera setup. The Realme 5 Pro comes with a 48MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.7, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro lens as well as a 2MP portrait lens or a depth sensor.

Generally, the primary camera is really snappy. The dynamic range is pretty high. There are occasional blown-own highlights when shooting in low-light environments.

The ultrawide lens brings a wider field of view while still retains the color. Of course, the dynamic range and focusing on this lens is lower than the main camera. But that is

expected since it has an aperture of f/2.25. In low-light conditions, the images look significantly darker and need stable handling.

The macro lens is fixed at 4cm. The f/2.4 aperture calls for ample light. The portrait lens does its job in separating a clean background even in low light.

Battery

The Realme 5 Pro has a 4,035mAh battery, enough to provide a great battery life. Thankfully, the phone supports VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge. The phone will be charged at 20W. And it requires just 30 minutes to take the phone from 0 to more than 50%. Unlike the Realme 3 Pro, its predecessor, charging is via USB Type-C.

The phone can easily last through a whole day with light to medium usage. With light usage, the screen-on-time could get to 6 to 7 hours. The figure would go down a bit when you add an hour of gaming.
