Xiaomi has just officially announced its latest smartphone, the Mi 11. This is the first smartphone in the world that comes with the powerful Snapdragon 888 chip from Qualcomm. Other features include a 6.8-inch 2K 120Hz display, 108MP camera setup, 55W fast charging, etc.
However, another notable change of Mi 11 is that Xiaomi has decided to remove the charger from the box. The company is said to follow the footsteps of Apple after the iPhone 12 generation launched in September was sold without the charger. This information was confirmed by Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, 2 days before the launch of the Mi 11.

At the even in China, Lei Jun personally addressed this decision of Xiaomi. According to him, Xiaomi doesn’t provide the charger with the Mi 11 is for environmental protection because most users already have compatible chargers.
However, for those users who still need a charger, they can still get one for free. By default, the Mi 11 won’t come with a charger. But users can choose the other version that comes with a 55W GaN charger without having to spend more money.
Xiaomi’s approach is welcomed by many users. While it upholds the spirit of “protecting the environment,” it doesn’t affect the interests of consumers. This is the complete opposite of Apple, where removing the charger is essentially a way for it to increase profits.

The cable that comes with the new iPhone is a USB-C type. And the majority of users are still using the charger with a USB-A output, which won’t work with this cable. So, most iPhone users will need a new charger. And of course, Apple won’t give them for free like Xiaomi.
