When the iPhone X was rolled out in September two years ago, Apple brought an impressive black notch to its design for the first time. Located at the screen’s top, the notch is really a detail difficult to ignore on this model. However, before the launch of the iPhone X, the Essential Phone first introduced in May 2017 had owned this design.
After that, a series of Android smartphones have begun taking part in the race of onscreen notches. Up to now, this trend has attracted a lot of participants from the smartphone world. Here are some of such smartphones:
iPhone XR (for $749.99 at Amazon)
Compared to iPhone XS and X, the iPhone XR is sold with the lower price and still sports almost all of the features offered by these two models. It is designed with a big screen, a perfect camera, and ideal performance. Considering the price, this model may be the top choice of Apple fans. In addition, a lot of vibrant colours are another plus point of the iPhone XR.
Pixel 3 XL (for $895 at Amazon Marketplace)
As per the specifications, the flagship is similar to the Pixel 3, a smaller model from Google. Its notch has been supposed to be the thickest one up to now, but the company also brings more space on the smartphone’s screen to show notification icons. Besides, users can blacken the notch’s sides to hide it.
iPhone XS and XS Max (for $999.99 at Amazon)
The iPhones XS and XS Max are designed with notches on their screen, similar to the iPhone X. With the iPhone XS, Apple improves the features of cameras, as well as offers a higher-performance processor and supports dual SIM.
As per the iPhone XS Max, this model sports a screen in width of 6.5 inches and same features with the iPhone XS.
OnePlus 6T (for $609 at Amazon)
The OnePlus 6T’s notch is smaller than that of the OnePlus 6. While other smartphones hold wide notches, its notch just looks like a “teardrop” on the screen. However, if the teardrop makes you disturbed, you can look for the traditional look of this OnePlus 6T by blackening the sides.
LG V40 ThinQ (for $949.99 at Amazon Marketplace)
One of the most impressive things in LG V40 ThinQ over most other smartphones is five cameras that offer much more options in photography, from bokeh portrait to images with wider angles.
This model’s screen is 6.4 inches wide, and it sports a headphone jack and an expandable memory.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro (for $989 at Amazon)
The notch of the Mate 20 Pro doesn’t have any difference with that of other smartphones; however, the model from Huawei has other attractive characteristics, such as a fingerprint scanner in its screen, identical to the Face ID of Apple.
Motorola One (for about $399)
Manufactured by Motorola, the One supports Android One, the Google’s operating system for smartphones. It has a 5.9-inch screen, a 3,000-mAh battery and 02 cameras on its back.
The Essential Phone (for $409.51 at Amazon)
The Essential Phone was the first smartphones with a notch on its screen. Designers just created an enough small notch to hold a front camera, but it’s a pity that its camera and battery life are not really ideal.
The iPhone X (for $949.42 at Amazon)
When launching the iPhone X in 2017, Apple first brought the notch design to its products. The model features a wide notch to house a “TrueDepth” camera system, different sensors, and a 7MP camera. All these features aim to run the unlocking feature called FaceID on the iPhone X.
OnePlus 6 (for $599 at Amazon)
The Chinese smartphone brand introduced the OnePlus 6 at the beginning of 2018. This is the first made-by-OnePlus device with a notch.
LG G7 (for $629.99 at Amazon)
Before its launch, the G7 was rumoured to own a notch, and it turns out to be true. Of course, its manufacturer, LG, also allows users to hide it if they don’t love it.
Huawei P20 Pro and P20 (for $599.99 at Amazon)
These two models from Huawei also house a notch on their own display. However, the security issues of these smartphones, as well as other devices manufactured by Huawei have been the top concerns of the US and the whole world.
Asus ZenFone 5 (for $319 at Amazon)
ZenFone 5 came to the public in March 2018 and its design was identical to Apple’s iPhone X. The different point may be its price. This model was clearly sold for a much lower price than the iPhone X.
