Right after that, De Rose pulled the iPhone X out of his pocket. At that time, the device was more than a year old. He discovered that black smoke was coming from the phone.

Due to the exploding iPhone X, De Rose said he suffered a “second-degree burn” in his thigh. Ashes were all over the place and his skin was flaking, he recalled. De Rose claims that he has contacted Apple several times about the matter but never received a response.

At the moment, the Australian scientist is working with his lawyer to sue Apple for compensation. The law firm is also representing another man from Melbourne who claims that he burned his wrist after his Apple Watch overheated.

All smartphones have a risk of fire and explosion due to the use of lithium-ion batteries. Problems like overheating, leaking, or collisions related to battery cells can cause a sparking effect. Putting the device in your pocket while sitting may bend it, leading to battery damage.
