Apple claims the Ceramic Shield on iPhone 12 makes it four times more durable against drops than previous iPhones. However, only days after the phones arrive, some users have complained about scratched screens.

Several tests have shown that the screens on iPhone 12 lineup are not that easy to be scratched. So what’s really going on here?
Ceramic Shield screens have a crystal structure that makes it more durable, but it doesn’t mean you can’t scratch it.
In his iPhone 12 review, Marques Brownlee said after just a few days, he noticed some scratches on his new phone.

He argued that shatter protection and scratch resistance are usually inversely proportional. This might sound incorrect but actually, the argument has its point.
Brownlee said the softer an object, the less likely it would break but more likely it would pick up scratches. So in other words, a hard display might be more vulnerable to drops but will hold up better to scratches.
However, there are some other reports showing something totally different. A review by MobileReviewsEh claims that iPhone 12’s shatter and scratch resistance levels are higher than those of the iPhone 11.
The iPhone 12 lineup is still new on the market so we will have to wait and see which opinion is accurate.
Apple focused a lot on the Ceramic Shield on iPhone 12 series at the launching event so it would be weird if a company like it overlooks a problem so obvious and common like scratches.
It’s worth pointing out that the cost to repair iPhone 12 lineup is higher so if you intend to get one and worry about these marks on the screens, you can always purchase a screen protector to secure your investment.
