The iPhone 12 Pro is currently the world’s fastest smartphone, beating the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra by a significant margin.
The performance is believed to be driven by the additional RAM and a more powerful processor.
iPhone 12 Pro Beats Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
Benchmark tests prove Apple’s new Bionic chip packs more power than many of its rivals.
In Geekbench 5 multi-core test, the iPhone 12 Pro scores 3882 while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra pulls in 2770. However, since benchmarks aren’t exactly the indication of real-world performance, PhoneBuff - a YouTube channel, organized a head-to-head competition between the two handsets.

The first test sees the two devices perform a series of tasks and open several apps. The second test involves the same apps being opened to see the reload speed.
Lap 1 sees iPhone 12 stays ahead, finishing all the tasks 14-second faster than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

The improvement comes down to the A14 Bionic chip which sports two efficiency cores and four performance cores clocking at 3GHz. It’s also the first commercial processor to offer a 5-nanometer process.
Additional RAM And New Bionic Chip For The Win
In test 2, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra finishes second again, losing by three seconds to the iPhone 12 Pro.
Previous models of iPhones usually have a minimal amount of RAM so they aren’t very good at reopening apps but it isn’t the case this year. Since the iPhone 12 lineup has 50% more RAM, the task is now done much faster.
The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features 12GB of RAM but still loses to iPhone 12 Pro with half of that amount speaks volumes of how efficient Apple manages its resource.

While the A14 Bionic chip can be found in all iPhone 12 models, only the two Pro variants have 6GB of RAM, the other two only have 4GB.
The full speed test sees Samsung handset scores 12% lower than Apple’s.
