It also comes with some other high-end features with a price of only around Rs. 30,000. However, the Honor 8 Pro is priced even more aggressive and a bit lower than the OnePlus 5. Moreover, Honor smartphones have already been received dual rear cameras earlier than its OnePlus counterpart. So, let’s get into details about the difference between the two smartphones.

Honor 8 Pro vs OnePlus 5: Price in India

The OnePlus 5 price in India is Rs. 32,999 while the Honor 8 Pro price in India is Rs. 29,999. You can clearly see that the Honor 8 Pro price is slightly lower than the OnePlus 5 price.

OnePlus 5 vs. Honor 8 Pro: Specifications

The OnePlus 5 flaunts a 5.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display while the Honor 8 Pro rocks a larger 6.7-inch Quad-HD LTPS display. The latter has a slight advantage thanks to its crisp display in comparison to the OnePlus 5’s display. The Honor 8 Pro would be a better choice if you watch a lot of videos and movies.

Powering the OnePlus 5 is a Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is an octa-core chipset clocked at 1.9GHz and built on the 10nm processor. Meanwhile, the Honor 8 Pro gets processing power from Kirin 980 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz, built on the 16nm process. Both smartphones pack 6GB of RAM.

The OnePlus 5 only has 64GB storage, while the Honor 8 Pro comes with double the storage of the OnePlus counterpart. You can also get an 8GB model of the OnePlus phone with 128GB storage, but the price will go up significantly. Moreover, Honor also offers a microSD card slot on the 8 Pro, which is not available on the OnePlus 5. In addition, the Honor smartphone also has an IR blaster, which is something that a lot of people want to have in their smartphones. With higher storage and higher-resolution display, the Honor device has an edge over its rival OnePlus 5.

Winner: Honor 8 Pro

Honor 8 Pro vs OnePlus 5: Performance & Battery life

The OnePlus handset has a slightly higher benchmark score over the Honor device, but we don’t really find that reliable since it’s accused of manipulating the benchmark scores. That means it is better to wait for the real-life performance to tell the difference.

Both phones are great for day to day tasks, but the OnePlus 5 was seen to deliver better performance overall. Moreover, the Honor 8 Pro seems to get a bit warm when playing several graphics-intensive mobile games or using its cameras. It is not the case for the OnePlus device.

Software-wise, both of them ship with Android 7 Nougat pre-installed with several customizations atop. To be more specific, while the Honor phone has EMUI skin on top, the custom interface on the OnePlus device is called OxygenOS. Between them, the OxygenOs is a nearly-stock version of Android, while Huawei put a bit more customizations on its EMUI. This is just a matter of preference, so we won’t weigh in on this.

In terms of battery life, the OnePlus 5 was ahead in the HD video loop test. In particular, the OnePlus 5’s 3,000mAh battery lasted 16 hours and 9 minutes, while the Honor 8 Pro’s battery could only provide power for 10 hours 19 minutes, despite having a much higher capacity. The reason for this is probably due to the Honor phone having a higher resolution screen. Both smartphones support fast charging technology, but the Honor charge is slightly slower than OnePlus Dash charger. With a lower battery capacity and fast charging solution, the OnePlus 5 was charged much faster than its Honor rival.

Overall, we believe the OnePlus 5 gets an edge in terms of performance and battery.

Winner: OnePlus 5

Honor 8 Pro vs OnePlus 5: Camera

Both smartphones come with a dual-camera cluster at the back, but their implementations are different. While the Honor 8 Pro has a 12MP RGB sensor and a 12MP monochrome sensor, the OnePlus 5 gets a 16MP main sensor and a 20MP telephoto camera. The latter only mostly uses the telephoto lens for taking portrait photos and it is only used in the photo mode when you zoom into the subject. Meanwhile, the monochrome sensor on the Honor 8 Pro lets users capture images in black and white.

Before our review of the smartphone, the OnePlus 5 had already got two software updates, which was claimed to enhance camera performance. In our review, we believe that the quality overall did improve, but it was not the case for the portrait mode as it was dropped.

As for camera modes, you have more modes to play with on the Honor 8 Pro. Both of them offer Pro mode that allows you to take full control of their cameras and take photos in RAW format.

Comparing the images, it is quite clear that the Honor smartphone took better details than the OnePlus smartphone. Even when taking photos of an object at a further distance, the Honor 8 Pro still did a better job in capturing details. However, the Honor smartphone doesn’t have a dedicated portrait mode like the OnePlus device, but it does get a wide aperture mode.

Night photography is what the OnePlus 5 is strong at. In the low-light conditions, the handset captures color much better. On the other hand, the Honor 8 Pro sharpens the photos, which also introduces plenty of noise. Overall, despite having better low-light photography, we still believe that the OnePlus 5 is still inferior to the Honor 8 Pro in terms of photography.

Winner: Honor 8 Pro

Honor 8 Pro vs OnePlus 5: Verdict

It all comes down to your needs on a smartphone. Both of them can manage basic to heavy tasks with ease, but we believe that the OnePlus smartphone has an edge in this case as it is more powerful and also has a lower temperature. As for battery life, either device can last for nearly a day. However, the OnePlus 5 might have a battery life over the Honor 8 Pro.

Even though the Quad-HD+ screen of the 8 Pro requires a higher battery, it offers a much better viewing experience in comparison with the OnePlus 5. Moreover, the Honor 8 Pro also seems to deliver higher-quality photos over its rival. Moreover, the Honor 8 Pro price in India is only Rs. 29,999 while the OnePlus 5 price in India is Rs. 32,999.
