Samsung finally unveils the Galaxy A80 at a launch event taking place in Thailand. The key highlights of the new phone in the Galaxy A series are its pop-up and rotating triple cameras (as we have seen on several phones like the Oppo N3), a truly bezel-less panel without a notch, and latest Qualcomm mid-range SoC. While Samsung hasn’t revealed the exact pricing of the phone, it said to offer the phone from 29 April in three color variants: Phantom Black, Angel Gold, and Ghost White. Along with the Galaxy A80, Samsung also announced that the release date for the Galaxy A70 will be 26 April.
Samsung Galaxy A80: Specifications & Features
In terms of specifications, the new Galaxy A80 sports a massive 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with Samsung’s New Infinity design which lacks a punch hole or notch along with thin bezels. Powering the phone is an octa-core gaming-centric Snapdragon 730 SoC, built on the 8nm process. The processor is paired with an Adreno 617 GPU, 128GB of internal storage and 8GB RAM with no micro-SD card slot support.
At the back, it has a triple camera setup stacked horizontally, including a 48MP main sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, a 123-degree ultra-wide-angle 8MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 3D depth sensor. As mentioned, these triple cameras can work as both selfie cameras and rear cameras due to its swivel mechanism, making it the first phone on its series to come with such design.
The phone is backed by a 3,700mAh cell with support for 25W SuperFast charging along with a feature that Samsung called “intelligent battery” system. According to the company, the system can adapt to your usage patterns and routine to save power. As for software, it ships with the latest Android 9.0 Pie with OneUI on top. Its connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, USB-C port, and Bluetooth.
