Reportedly, Analyst Kou notes that Apple will plan for the current Liquid Crystal Polymer antenna technology to be replaced by a new combination of Modified PI technology.
A lot of new resources are now saying that Apple’s first 5G iPhone will be arriving in 2020. And Antenna technology is known as an important factor in heading toward the next generation of wireless - 5G. According to a recent report, the Cupertino-based company is expected to adopt a new antenna technology for the arrival of Apple's 2019 iPhone series.
Ming-Chi Kuo has returned with a new prediction regarding the 2019's upcoming iPhone lineup. He says that Apple will replace the current Liquid Crystal Polymer antenna technology and switch to a new combination of Modified PI technology. This move is seen as the first steps towards Apple's 5G future.
According to MacRumors, Kou claims that:
Moreover, the analyst also says that LCD is more “brittle” than alternatives, therefore, has some issues with yield rate. While the Modified PI antenna is said to be “ as good as LCP thanks to the improved fluoride formula.”
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in his latest note:
He also claims that Apple will supply the LCP antenna tech through a Japanese monopoly supplier, due to their greater vertical integration.
Moreover, Intel is said to be providing Intel’s 8161 5G modem chip for the 2019 iPhone. The report also notes that the 8161 will be built with the 10-nanometers process which promises a boost in speed and proficiency. In addition, reports suggest that Apple might rely on Intel as the exclusive provider of modems for iPhones. Intel is also said to be testing the Intel 8060 5G chip in iPhones to see how it would work. Meanwhile, smartphone makers Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo are expected to use 5G modem chips made by Qualcomm.
