WhatsApp Warns Users Against Unofficial Versions Of Its App With Some Users Banned

The unofficial versions of WhatsApp are created by third-parties, offering users with some additional features that are not built in the official version.

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Facebook, is one of the most popular communication networks. WhatsApp as released as an instant messenger, but now the app lets users make video calls and voice calls along with a set of other features.

The problem is, while people can easily download the app from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store, they may also come across unofficial versions of the apps which are created by third-parties. These modded versions of WhatsApp offer users with some additional features that are not built in the official version.

However, these apps also put users at the risk of being hacked, including their chat history, contacts, and personal information. To ensure data security and user privacy, the company has blocked a number of users from its messaging platform.

If a user is banned from WhatsApp, they will see a message that reads:

For these users to get back on the platform, they have to uninstall and remove the version they’re using and download the official one from Play Store or App Store. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t say whether or not this action will restore previous chat history.

At the same time, WhatsApp is carrying out tests on some of its new features which they may release to users soon. The new features include Advance Search that enables users to look up different types of messages like Audio, Links, Documents, Videos, GIFs, and Photos. The company is also working to provide users with the dark mode, group invitation, and fingerprint lock to better secure your chats.

The Facebook-owned company has faced criticism over the past few months for failing to protect users on its platform and last month, the company was summoned by the parliamentary standing committee on IT to discuss safeguarding users.
