On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop its support for Windows 7, that means you should have upgraded to Windows 10 by now, otherwise, do it as soon as possible.
However, some users don’t want to upgrade yet because the launch of Windows 10 experienced certain issues. But in April, the tech giant introduced a series of changes to its approach for updates starting with the release for May 2019. That includes slower rollouts and more testing, more options to pause updates as well as more disclosure for known problems.
Anyway, there are three main reasons for upgrading your Windows PC to the latest operating system as quickly as you can.
Security
According to Andrew Hewitt, a research analyst from Forrester, upgrading to Windows 10 is about security. So next year, if you still use Windows 7, you won’t receive security fixes or updates or technical support for your problems. That means you are exposed to malware and viruses.
Windows 10 comes with Windows Defender Antivirus, the built-in software for protecting your PC from spyware and malware on the web, the cloud, apps, and email. Besides, Windows Hello gives you the option of signing in without using a password, unlocking your devices with your fingerprint or face. Meanwhile, Find My Device has the ability to remotely lock as well as erase your Windows device, or map its location.
User experience features
Coming along with Windows 10 is a better user experience attributed to several features. One of them is Your Phone, an app that gives you access to apps, notifications, and texts on your handset using the PC, which is similar to the Continuity feature from Apple. There’s another feature named Calls that lets you place and take Android calls using the PC and a dictation feature that allows you to record ideas easily.
In addition, Cortana, Microsoft’s voice assistant, is available on Windows 10 computers. Plus, the operating system better integrates with OneDrive as well as other cloud tools.
The latest Windows 10 update for November 2019 comes with several new features like changes to notifications to make it easier for users to manage and configure them from a website or an app, along with the ability to create events from Calendar on the Taskbar rather than having to launch the app.
Automatic updates
The difference between Windows 10 and previous versions of the OS is that it updates automatically by default, which helps keep the system more secure. But you can turn this off if you want, just head to Windows Update Settings and click on Advanced Options, then from the drop-down menu, you can switch from Automatic to one of the other options.
According to Hewitt, updates may come quite frequently, just like when you use a smartphone and get prompts to update the OS continuously.
