The photo-sharing site Instagram is about to take down an infamous app called Ghosty because of its violation of the company’s terms and policies. In fact, this app helped people allegedly eye on private accounts of other users without permission.

Prior to this, the app made its availability on both iOS and Android devices.

According to Android Police, Instagram confirmed that a cease and desist letter will be sent to the publisher of Ghosty with an order to stop its activities on Instagram immediately. Prior to this, the app made its availability on both iOS and Android devices. As promoted, Ghosty allows people to view all the profiles they want, even if it’s a hidden Instagram profile. What’s more, people can also download photos and videos from these accounts easily with the help of Ghosty.

Instead of giving you the ability to look into a random private account, Ghosty only lets you check accounts it has login credentials.

The app uses Instagram’s API to work on a database of users. Firstly, it gets Instagram login credentials after making users sign in with that information. Instead of giving you the ability to look into a random private account, Ghosty only lets you check accounts it has login credentials so far.

At present, both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store have already removed the app from their library but some third-party app stores are still offering it. As per a report, the number of downloads has reached 5,00,000 times on devices running Android OS.
