Sundar Pichai Announced A Rs 5,990 Donation From Google To Fight CO.VID-19

The donation from Google is divided into several amounts for different purposes, including helping small businesses, researchers and health institutions.

On Friday, Google Chief Executive Officier Sundar Pichai announced that the company will donate over Rs 5,990 crore in loans and ad credits to help governments, as well as small businesses, tackle the ongoing pandemic.

Specifically, here’s how the donation is distributed:

Rs 1,871 crore worth of ad grants is going to over 100 government organizations around the world, including WHO.
Rs 2,545 crore in ad credits is going to small businesses that have accounts active in the last year. The credits are effective until the year-end.
Rs 1,497crore will be invested in nonprofits as well as financial institutions to provide small businesses with loans.
Rs 149.7 crore worth of Google Cloud credits is going to researchers and academic institutions fighting CO.VID-19.
Google also said that there will be investments to help suppliers expand their face mask production along with personal protective gear.

The pandemic is getting more serious around the world

As of today, March 29, there have been over 660,000 confirmed cases worldwide and the pandemic has claimed more than 30,000 lives. Since its outbreak, the disease has spread to over 180 countries, including India. As for India, there have been 987 cases and 24 deaths so far and the entire country has been on full lockdown.
