The Bengaluru-based startup is gaining momentum in the United States of America with its learning platform Quizizz, which works via games. Started in 2015 and backed by Nexus Venture Partners and other investors, it now has 20 million active users every month, competing with one of the giants in the language learning platform Duolingo which has 30 million active users per month. It has to be noted that the Indian based application is making a mark abroad while it is yet to make the same achievement in India.
Ankit Gupta and Deepak Cheenath, both 30, founded this learning platform in 2015. They studied together in BITS Pilani and completed their majors in Information Systems. Later, they started working separately in 2011 from which Cheenath became a software development engineer at Amazon in Hyderabad. A report suggests that 50 percent of schools in the US now has Quizizz for fun learning.
The learning platform gained wider appreciation after Nexus Venture Partners pumped $3 million for further growth. The Indian market at that period of time was moving towards digitization and easy access to the internet and computers. The much-needed market for Quizizz was formed in the US. Interestingly, the learning software enables a student to understand complex topics in a simple way. Their method is to put forward a quiz based on the curriculum set by the teachers of a particular school. This application also enables teachers to create their own quizzes for their students. Interactive education is taken as an easier way to teach students in US schools as compared to Indian schools in which rote learning continues to hamper the growth of students.
Learning via multiplayer games on the platform motivated students to reach the top leader board which led them to focus on their studies by understanding the topics.
"We are focused on providing better education for students. We are yet to monetize the platform", says Gupta.
Now they plan to enhance their reach of the learning platform for corporates to imbibe training, marketing campaigns and other aspects of business modules.
