Google has not had much of a success with its tablet endeavor. After the announcement to discontinue the Pixel C a few years ago, we all thought that it would give up on this plan. However, it was not until recently the company made it official that it was done with making tablets and would focus on laptops from now on.
Google reportedly dropped two of its developing tablet designs earlier this week. The company’s employees were informed of this decision on Wednesday at an internal meeting. The personnel in charge of the now-dropped projects will be transferred to some other assignments. According to the company, they planned to launch these tablets sometime after 2019, but since they did not meet their standards, Google decided to give up on them.
There was a report saying that Google’s next hardware would be for productivity “on-the-go. “However, since we do not know whether it is a tablet or not, we have no idea if it was one of the two projects that have just been terminated.
Google might be done with making tablets but it is not to say that the company would not look into the possibility of a 2-in-1 machine, in other words, a device that:

This termination of the tablet projects will not have much of an impact on Chrome OS devices. The team in charge of Chrome OS will continue their work on tablets and laptops. The company's Pixel Slate will also get support through 2024.
This news has nothing to do with the Pixel smartphones, a rather successful hardware made by Google.
