Google To Support 1 Million Women Entrepreneurs In Rural India

During Google India’s digital event with the participation of Ratan Tata, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, announced Women Will.

On International Women’s Day, Sundar Pichai and Google have promised to transform the lives of female entrepreneurs in India digitally.

A grant of $500,000 would be sent to the NASSCOM Foundation for the support of 10,000 female agri workers, offering them financial and digital literacy skills.

Pichai also revealed the Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls which worth $25 million to help unlock the entrepreneurial spirit and the ingenuity spirit of girls and women around the world.

March 8 also marked the conclusion of the joint initiative of Google and Tata Trusts in India called Internet Saathi which aimed at empowering rural women through Internet access. The unique collaboration allowed women in rural India to have access to digital literacy skills while bridging the digital gender divide.

The program was first launched in 2015 by Sundar Pichai to offer digital literacy training to women living in 300,000 villages in India. In six years, it has benefitted more than 30 million women in the country.
