Dating back to the last September, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have made a shocking decision about leaving Facebook. For those who haven’t heard about the duo, both of them were founders of Instagram, the most popular photo and video-sharing social network in the world. In April 2012, two years after its first launch, Facebook acquired the service for a ballpark figure of $1 billion. Now, the real reason that made Krieger and Systrom depart from Facebook has been unveiled.
Wired has released a story, of which covering internal Facebook’s happening in the past 15 months. According to it, the clash between two former Instagram founders and the ‘big boss’ Mark Zuckerberg was the main reason leading to their departure. Last year, in a formal announcement about that resignation, they wrote: “We’re now ready for our next chapter”.
Since integrating into Facebook, the photo-sharing platform has been becoming more than a phenomenon. Facebook took pride in its massive growth, however, a couple of top executives in the company were said to believe that Instagram’s success was curtailing the existing growth of the parent Blue App, Facebook. Along with this, an internal resentment against Instagram occurred within Facebook. In this case, the tech giant seems to be barking up the wrong tree.
As a part of that, a few days after Facebook announced its earnings reports that quarter, Mark Zuckerberg asked his consultant, Javier Olivan to list all the ways that they supported Instagram. After having the list, he told Krieger and Systrom that he was taking back all the support. Furthermore, Systrom was said to explain to his staff about Zuckerberg's cut-off decision on Instagram's traffic.
Some insiders disclosed that the duo believed that Zuckerberg was intentionally making struggles in hopes that they would quit the company. Apart from that, Systrom and Krieger have maintained that their exit of Facebook is not far from amicable.
