Instagram Develops A New Feature To Control Spam On Public Account

Instagram has reportedly developed a new feature that can help its users to control spam direct messages (DMs) on public accounts. With the feature, users will be able to choose who can chat with them through messages.

The famous photo-messaging application will offer many new options in the upcoming time. For example, users can choose to receive messages from other Instagram users they are following. The news was given by a confidential app leaker named Jane Manchun Wong.

Instagram users may face the disadvantages caused by spam bots many times. These bots leave unexpected comments on their posts. Also, they sometimes “attack” their direct messages.

Wong recently posted a screenshot pointing out that with this new feature, Instagram users can prevent other users from disturbing them via inbox messages. It is applied even when your account is set to public.

At the moment, the set-up mode on Facebook’s video-sharing app is allowing users to receive messages directly from strange accounts. However, it also displays a request which allows them to ignore these messages.

As such, with the advent of the new feature, strangers will be unable to send messages to your Instagram account like before. This setting will be allegedly shown as a new option of privacy settings.

The app now provides this feature to some certain influencers via Creator Account option. However, on the support page, the company notes that it is “slowly rolling out as an option for all users.”

In addition, the company may be considering an alternative that allows users to add new members into a group chat.
