Starting July, merchants can sell products directly in Instagram. Yesterday, the photo-sharing site made public its new Commerce Eligibility Requirements, which allow more business to take advantage of Instagram Shopping. It means creators can now join the program.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many stores to close, this might be a piece of good news for Instagram creators who can now sell on the platform and make a living.
The new requirements will be in effect starting July 9 and they are applicable in all nations that have support for Instagram Shopping.
However, not all creators are able to take advantage of this program. First, they have to prove trustworthiness with their follower base and established presence on the site.
For now, Instagram has not specified on the number of followers one needs to have to sell on the platform. Also, the creators need to tag products from websites that they own and sell from.
The platform has been trying to develop its shopping feature for a few years now. In 2016, it introduced shopping tags. Two years later, it added a shopping function to Explore tab and Stories.

In 2019, it allows influencers and celebrities to access its shopping feature. However, it was until recently that creators are involved with shopping on the site.
YouTube allowed creators to sell merchandise starting 2018 so it comes as no surprise that the photo-sharing platform follows suit.
