Indian customers on Amazon now can have a more interesting shopping experience with 'Speak to Shop,' a new feature updated on Amazon Shopping app. With the voice command feature, the app now lets customers use their voice to search for products and select items they want to buy. However, this new feature is only available on Android devices, not on iOS. Besides, there isn’t any other information about updating it globally.
Both Prime and non-Prime customers can use 'Speak to Shop' as long as their devices are running Android 5.1 and above. You will need to update your shopping app and allow the app to get access to your phone microphone to use this new feature.
This feature is powered by Alexa but users don’t need to say “Alexa” to start searching, like on Google apps, you need to tap on the Voice button near the search bar to communicate with it. The company also said that customers can only use voice commanding for searching and selecting items. To place orders and make a payment, customers have to do it by hand.
According to Kishore Thota, India's Director of Customer Experience and Marketing of the e-commerce giant, this project has been implemented since Amazon Hindi on mobile Web and app was launched. He also said that Amazon is working so that Amazon apps will be powered more by Alexa.
A disadvantage of 'Speak to Shop' now is that users need to use English to communicate with the app. The developing team is working to integrate more languages into the app.
Besides shopping, customers can use ‘Voice’ to enjoy other benefits from the company such as playing music or podcasting. Of course, you need to sing up for Amazon Prime and download other apps like Amazon Music.
Voice-based shopping was provided by the firm before, it required users to install Alexa app to use the feature.
