Heavy rain in Mumbai has become a huge problem in the last few days. Flights and trains are delayed, and there have been casualties as a result of accidents related to the rain. So far, the reported number of dead is 22.
Google has shown up to help the locals as road blockage is now a real issue for Mumbai residents. The company has launched a new feature to help them navigate their ways around. Users of Google Maps can now report blocked roads so that others can avoid them.
Anyone can contribute to this function as long as they have an Android or iOS smartphone with access to Google Maps.
If you own an Android phone, here is how you can report road blockage:
Access Google Maps; now you will see an option called Mumbai Floods.
Tap “Report road closure.”
Pick the road that has been blocked and press “Next.”
After you have identified the road, the app will direct you to a page where you can fill in more information, including Direction, When, and Reason.
You will find the Send button at the top right side of the screen.
If you have an iPhone, here is how to report:
Access Google Maps.
Tap on the “Mumbai Floods” option.
Pick the road or roads that have been closed and tap “Next.”
You need to sign in first to report so if you have not, the app will ask you to do so now to confirm what you have just put in.
After you have done reporting the needed information, tap the icon that looks like the paper plane to send it.
Facebook’s Safety Check has also been activated for this crisis.
